Summary: This study monitored the long-term effects of moisture and substrate on seed persistence. The results showed that moisture levels were the main driver for seed persistence, and different species had different seed viability in the soil. The classification of soil seed bank type should consider both environmental factors and seed germination traits.

Summary: Using ecologically sound methods to reduce weed seed banks, lower traditional herbicide application frequency, and achieve comparable results to conventional methods. Compared to traditional methods, integrated weed management can reduce herbicide applications by half and save costs and labor by 30%.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different grassland utilization methods on soil seed banks and found that grazing and enclosure increased seed bank content, while mowing reduced it. Grazing had the greatest impact on the density of perennial grass seed banks, while mowing mainly affected the seed bank of upper growth grasses.

Summary: The study found that natural wetlands have higher species richness and seed density compared to farmed fields. Saline-alkaline stress restricts seed germination and establishment of wetland species, negatively affecting the potential for seed germination and natural restoration.

Summary: The quality and quantity of soil seed bank composition were investigated in a study on the restoration of damaged native sites in riparian environments in Victoria, Australia. The study found that while the soil seed bank showed potential as a recruitment source of native species, many sites were still dominated by exotic species, making it unreliable as a long-term restoration strategy. Prior site selection for restoration efforts is crucial, and a positive seed bank composition with a significant density of native species seeds is indicative of native species' resilience and potential for recovery.

Summary: Research has shown significant differences in the understory vegetation and soil seed banks among rehabilitation areas with different vegetation types. The effects of plantations are better than naturally restored abandoned farmland, and the choice of tree species is crucial for vegetation recovery.

Summary: Rural agricultural activities greatly influence the restoration of the soil seed bank and aboveground vegetation. Different vegetation types have significant differences in species diversity and composition of aboveground vegetation and seed banks. Soil properties significantly affect the species composition and plant life forms of different vegetation types. Unsustainable land use has a profound impact on soil properties, aboveground vegetation, and the seed bank, but vegetation can quickly recover after farming is abandoned.

Summary: Close-to-nature restoration of mining areas is recognized for promoting ecosystem resilience and mitigating biodiversity losses. A field study in an arid mining area in northwestern China found that disturbances affect seed banks and their potential for vegetation restoration. Mild-to-moderate disturbances had limited negative effects on the soil seed bank. The study highlights the significance of soil seed banks for ecological recovery in arid mining areas.

Summary: Soil salinization poses a widespread threat to inland wetlands worldwide. Soil seed banks play a crucial role in plant regeneration in salinized wetlands. This study examines the effects of soil salinization on soil seed banks and their role in revegetation, focusing on wetlands in the Songnen Plain, China. The findings demonstrate that soil salinization influences the size and composition of soil seed banks and their contribution to plant regeneration in the wetlands.

Summary: Subalpine peat wetlands are sensitive to environmental changes and disturbances. Soil seed banks (SSB) can help plant communities resist disturbance, but their response to soil moisture varies. SSB composition is less affected by soil moisture changes compared to plant community composition. High SSB diversity and similarity to vegetation provide a buffer against moisture changes. SSB is important for restoring propagule diversity after disturbance if hydrology is restored.

Summary: The transition from arid grassland to shrubland ecosystem is not caused by changes in the seed bank composition, but by the inhibition of the seed bank's restorability to aboveground vegetation. The similarity between aboveground vegetation and seed bank decreases significantly when soil moisture crosses the critical threshold. Future studies on changes in vegetation composition and species diversity with ecosystem transitions should consider the belowground seed bank.

Summary: This research examined the seed dormancy, germination, and soil seed bank dynamics of Eruca sativa, a versatile cruciferous species. The study found that E. sativa seeds can germinate in a wide temperature range and exhibit non-deep physiological dormancy at maturity. The germination of seeds is sensitive to water and salinity stress. When buried in soil, the seeds form a persistent soil seed bank, but emergence is hindered when buried deeper than 5 cm. This species' germination characteristics allow it to adapt to the harsh low-temperature climate of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Summary: Ripping soils can improve water infiltration and holding capacity, but may also increase non-native plant cover. Seed mixtures perform best when planted before winter rains, with only 3 out of 10 seeded species persisting. Adding seed bank topsoil is effective at increasing native species richness, but only in unripped plots.

Summary: The Mediterranean region is expected to experience more intense rainfall events and severe droughts due to climate change, leading to an increase in runoff and erosion rates in agrosystems. Vegetation cover can help reduce erosion and the soil seed bank can provide cost-effective vegetation. This study assessed the effect of vegetation cover on seed loss in vineyards and evaluated the differences in the soil seed bank along a transect. The results suggest that vegetation may not protect interrows from runoff-induced seed loss.
