Yuchengia gen. nov. is proposed to accommodate Perenniporia narymica. It represents a monophyletic lineage within the core polyporoid clade based on sequences of the rDNA ITS and nLSU regions, and it is distinct from Perenniporia s.s. Yuchengia shares some characters with Perenniporia, both having thick-walled and cyanophilous basidiospores, but differs by having acyanophilous and amyloid skeletal hyphae dissolving in KOH, and non-dextrinoid basidiospores.

Species Diversity and Molecular Phylogeny of Cyanosporus (Polyporales, Basidiomycota)

Shun Liu, Lu-Lu Shen, Yan Wang, Tai-Min Xu, Genevieve Gates, Bao-Kai Cui

Summary: Cyanosporus is a cosmopolitan brown-rot fungal genus characterized by blue-tinted basidiocarps. Recent studies have identified five new species within this genus and transferred fifteen species from another complex. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using various genetic markers to support these taxonomic changes.

Systematic classification and phylogenetic relationships of the brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales

Shun Liu, Yuan-Yuan Chen, Yi-Fei Sun, Xiao-Lan He, Chang-Ge Song, Jing Si, Dong-Mei Liu, Genevieve Gates, Bao-Kai Cui

Summary: Brown-rot fungi are important for forest ecosystems as they degrade wood cellulose and hemicellulose, and contribute to nutrient cycling. Recent studies have shown that the ability to produce brown rot has evolved independently multiple times. This study focuses on the classification and phylogenetic relationships of brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales, based on DNA sequences from various loci. The study proposes new families, genera, species, and combinations, and provides illustrations and descriptions for the new species.

Summary: In this study, four new species of the Phellodon genus, namely P. caesius, P. henanensis, P. concentricus, and P. subgriseofuscus, were described from China based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using the ITS + nLSU gene regions and the combined sequence dataset of ITS + nLSU + nSSU + RPB1 + RPB2 gene regions. Illustrated descriptions and ecological habits of the newly described species are provided.

Yue Li, Karen K. Nakasone, Che-Chih Chen, Chang-Lin Zhao, Ting Cao, Hai-Sheng Yuan, Shuang-Hui He

Summary: This study aims to understand the species diversity, taxonomy, and phylogeny of Cystostereaceae based on material from East and Southeast Asia. The study identified four distinct clades within Cystostereaceae and proposed three new combinations. The results also highlighted the richness of wood-decaying fungal species in East and Southeast Asia, suggesting the need for further investigations and studies.

Summary: In this study, phylogenetic analyses were conducted on Perenniporia species and related genera using DNA sequences of multiple loci. It was found that the genus Perenniporia is polyphyletic. Based on morphology and phylogeny, 15 new genera were proposed, 2 new species were described, and 37 new combinations were proposed. Illustrated descriptions of the new species were provided, along with identification keys to Perenniporia and its related genera.

Identifying Bioactive Ingredients and Antioxidant Activities of Wild Sanghuangporus Species of Medicinal Fungi

Hao Wang, Jin-Xin Ma, Dong-Mei Wu, Neng Gao, Jing Si, Bao-Kai Cui

Summary: This study investigated the bioactive components and antioxidant activities of various species of Sanghuangporus fungi. The results showed that the antioxidant capacity of Sanghuangporus is closely related to the contents of flavonoid and ascorbic acid, followed by polyphenol and triterpenoid, and finally, polysaccharide. These findings provide important resources and guidance for the separation, purification, and development of bioactive agents from wild Sanghuangporus species, as well as the optimization of their artificial cultivation conditions.
