Summary: Platelets, as abundant corpuscles in the blood, play important roles in normal physiological processes and disease occurrence. In recent years, significant progress has been made in platelet-inspired nanotherapeutics, especially in the fields of biotechnology and nanomedicine. This article provides an overview of platelet-inspired nanotherapeutics for biomedical applications. It discusses the recent trends of biomimetic platelet-inspired nanosystems, the functional modulation of platelet aggregation, activation, and inhibition, platelet derivative-based nanotherapeutics, and the clinical application prospects of these emerging nanotherapeutics with their rationale, advantages, and challenges highlighted.

Summary: This paper summarizes the complex and pivotal role of red blood cells (RBCs) in nitric oxide (NO) metabolism and endothelial function regulation. It discusses RBCs' function as a mobile depot of amino acids necessary for NO biotransformation, the regulation of RBCs' translocases, and the intraerythrocytic metabolism of L-arginine. It also explores the additional function of hemoglobin in NO synthesis and its regulation.

Summary: The study introduces a NO-based phototherapeutic strategy for hypoxic tumors using photogenerated holes to oxidize water into H2O2, subsequently producing NO. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that this strategy induced cancer cell apoptosis, paving the way for the development of NO therapeutic strategies.

Summary: The study reveals that EPO stimulates CSN activity under hypoxic conditions at lower concentrations, but inhibits it at higher concentrations. The inhibitory effect of high-dose EPO on CSN activity may be attributed to an increase in nitric oxide production.

Summary: The study demonstrates that NO can mimic hypoxia response in human PSCs under normoxic conditions, enhancing their stemness properties and altering their metabolic profile, including upregulation of genes like HIF-1 alpha, HIF-2 alpha, NANOG, OCT-4, and increased expression of glycolysis and mitochondrial fusion regulators.

Summary: Plant survival and adaptation during oxygen deprivation, caused by various biotic and abiotic factors, rely on mechanisms such as fermentation, antioxidant enzymes, and the reduction pathways of nitrate and nitric oxide. Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in reducing nitric oxide toxicity is important not only for plant physiology, but also for addressing uncertainties in the global nitrous oxide budget.

Summary: The renin-angiotensin system and hypoxia have a complex interaction. Renin expression and release vary under different types of hypoxia. Hypoxia-inducible factor signaling, natriuretic peptides, nitric oxide, and Notch signaling play potential roles in regulating hypoxic renin expression.

Summary: The study investigated the phosphorylation of nitric oxide synthase isoform in red blood cells under different shear stress levels, revealing a non-linear response that varies with exposure time and stress magnitude. This provides new insights into the relationship between RBC-NOS and shear stress.

Summary: Comprehensive metabolic studies showed that the loss of myoglobin does not significantly impact glucose homeostasis, EE, RER, or response to cold challenge in mice, indicating that myoglobin is not necessary for maintaining oxidative metabolism. However, there is a sex-specific effect of myoglobin knockout on fat storage and feed efficiency, as evident from the increased adiposity in female Mb-/- mice.

Summary: USPIONs administration improved erythrocyte deformability and nitric oxide production in normotensive rats but not in hypertensive rats. Hypertensive rats showed significantly lower levels of USPION-originated iron in erythrocytes and faster elimination of USPIONs compared to normotensive rats.

Summary: A glutathione-sensitive supramolecular nanocarrier is developed for the delivery of nitric oxide (NO) and the chemotherapeutic agent gemcitabine (GEM). This nanocarrier effectively inhibits tumor cell-induced platelet aggregation (TCIPA) and attenuates the migration and invasion of tumor cells. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the nanocarrier suppresses primary tumor growth and significantly inhibits tumor metastasis.
