Summary: Intima-media thickness (IMT) measurement is a non-invasive method to assess arterial wall, and it is associated with atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction. Pre-existing conditions like diabetes, chronic hypertension, and obesity may impair the adaptation to pregnancy and influence fetal IMT. Increased fetal abdominal aorta IMT (aIMT) has been correlated with placental dysfunctions, which may lead to gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and fetal growth restriction. Understanding the underlying pathomechanism is crucial for developing targeted therapies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of low-dose acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) for the prevention of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR) in a Polish population. The results showed that patients in the high-risk group were more likely to experience complications during pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes, and cesarean section. The conclusion is that the first-trimester screening is crucial in identifying high-risk pregnancies, and ASA prophylaxis may have the most beneficial effect on these high-risk patients.

Summary: Elevated levels of OLAH in the placenta may be associated with placental dysfunction in pregnancies complicated by preterm preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Further research is required to understand the role of OLAH in the placenta, and whether these changes are a maternal adaptation or consequence of disease.

Summary: IGFBP1 gene single nucleotide polymorphism is associated with preeclampsia susceptibility. The GG or AG genotypes are associated with a decreased risk of preeclampsia. Women in the preeclampsia group with the G allele have higher fetal birth weight, lower diastolic blood pressure, and lower levels of ALT and AST. Rs1065780A>G raises the level of IGFBP1 protein in plasma and decidua in the preeclampsia group.

Summary: Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) is an imprinting disorder characterized by overgrowth and susceptibility to embryonal tumors. The relationship between maternal complications such as HELLP syndrome and preeclampsia with the development of BWS in offspring is rarely documented. This case report highlights the complex nature of BWS and its potential association with maternal complications, as well as the atypical presence of fetal growth restriction and the absence of CDKN1C gene mutations in the newborn, which have not been previously reported in BWS cases.

Summary: Utero-placental development in pregnancy depends on direct maternal-fetal interaction in the uterine wall decidua. Abnormal uterine vascular remodeling preceding placental oxidative stress and placental dysfunction are associated with preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction (FGR).

Summary: This study evaluated the number of Tregs and Th17 cells in patients with preeclampsia (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR). The results showed that PE patients had a higher number of Th17 cells and a lower number of Treg cells, indicating a proinflammatory profile. In the FGR group, there was an increase in Th17 cells during the third trimester. These findings suggest that inflammation may play a significant role in the development of PE and FGR.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes in plasma levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), nitric oxide (NO), and related metabolites during pregnancy progression. The results showed significant decreases in plasma levels of NO and thiocyanate (SCN-) at 25-28 weeks and 28-32 weeks gestation, while plasma H2S levels significantly decreased at 28-32 weeks gestation. Methanethiol (CH3SH) levels did not show significant differences. These findings are important for understanding the role of these gasotransmitters in normal and pathological progression of pregnancy.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a common and serious complication affecting millions of pregnant women worldwide. This study found that a novel H2S-releasing aspirin can ameliorate preeclampsia by reducing hypertension and renal damage through possibly stimulating antioxidant genes, improving fetal outcomes compared to aspirin alone.

Summary: An imbalanced angiogenic growth factors and poor utero-placental perfusion are strongly correlated with preeclampsia. A refined RUPP model in C57B1/6 J mice was developed to test the efficacy of MZe786 as a potential inhibitor of soluble Flt-1 for preeclampsia therapy. The study demonstrated that MZe786 treatment successfully prevented the development of preeclampsia by reducing maternal MAP and kidney nitrotyrosine staining, and improving fetal outcomes.
