Summary: This study aims to monitor substance use and problem gambling among migrant adolescents living in Italy. The study found that boys were more likely than girls to exhibit alcohol-related risk behaviors, cannabis use, and gambling, while girls from Eastern European and non-Western/non-European countries had a lower risk of alcohol consumption. The study also found that the risk behaviors were more pronounced in the first generation of migrants, possibly due to acculturation challenges and socio-economic factors.

Summary: Traditionally, risk-taking behaviors in adolescents have been analyzed from a psychopathological perspective, focusing on their potential costs. However, this study suggests that risk-taking behaviors may serve as a means for adolescents to obtain potential benefits for survival and reproduction based on evolutionary theory. The study found sex differences in risk propensity, expected benefits, and risk perception in different evolutionary domains, and these factors predicted engagement in risk-taking behaviors in male and female adolescents to varying degrees.

Summary: This study examined the clustering pattern of health risk behaviors among school-going adolescents in Bangladesh. Three behavioral clusters were identified: low-risk takers, moderate risk takers, and high-risk takers. Factors such as age, father's education, monthly family income, and parental understanding of their child's problems were significantly associated with high-risk behavior. These findings can help in developing intervention programs and strategies to reduce the prevalence of health risk behaviors among adolescents.

Summary: There are sex and gender differences in substance use, with more males initiating drug use than females, but less so for Black males and females. Risk factors for initiating drug use during college differ by sex, with impulsivity and sensation seeking playing different roles in males and females. Interventions for young adults should take into account sex and gender differences to prevent substance use.

Summary: Previous research has often overlooked adolescents' own motivations for engaging in risk-taking behavior. Recent studies suggest that adolescents' motivations for risk-taking include experimentation, identity development, explorative behavior, and sensation seeking, which contradict stereotypes.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between substance use, social isolation, and food consumption in adolescents. It found that regular alcohol users were more likely to consume candies and soft drinks regularly, while regular tobacco users were less likely to consume beans regularly and more likely to consume candies regularly. Using at least one substance was negatively associated with regular bean consumption and positively associated with regular consumption of sweets and soft drinks. Socially isolated adolescents were less likely to consume beans regularly. Substance use was positively associated with an unhealthy eating score.

Summary: Adolescents in the United States had higher rates of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts compared to Chinese adolescents, with differences in substance use behaviors between the two groups. Alcohol use was significantly associated with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts only in Chinese adolescents, while marijuana use was linked to these outcomes only in US adolescents. The associations of prescription pain medication use with suicide attempts were significant in both Chinese and US adolescent groups, with stronger adjusted associations found in Chinese adolescents.

Summary: Traditional models of future alcohol use in adolescents have used variable-centered approaches, predicting alcohol use from a set of variables across entire samples or populations. Following the proposition that predictive factors may vary in adolescents as a function of family history, we used a two-pronged approach by first defining clusters of familial risk, followed by prediction analyses within each cluster. This approach may inform more individualized preventive interventions by considering individual differences in personality, cognition, life events, brain function, and drinking behavior.

Summary: The study found that frontline nurses working in respiratory environments during the COVID-19 pandemic experienced significant levels of anxiety and depression, with younger and less experienced nurses being more vulnerable. Age and years of qualification were found to be key factors influencing anxiety and depression levels among nurses. Support mechanisms and interventions need to be implemented to help all nurses, especially younger and less experienced staff, during pandemic outbreaks.

Summary: Progress in evaluating the efficacy of biopsychosocial treatment for patients with sexual problems is hindered by the absence of concise measurement tools. To address this gap, the Sexual Function Evaluation Questionnaire (SFEQ) was developed and validated, combining the best-performing items from two existing instruments. The SFEQ demonstrated internal and external validity, with correlations to patient depression and anxiety, and varied changes in scores during therapy as expected, showing potential utility in assessing sexual function and treatment effectiveness.

Summary: Stigma has a negative impact on mental health. Both LGBTQ+ individuals and substance users face stigma, and being part of both groups can result in double stigma. This study found that heterosexual individuals were generally viewed more positively than LGBTQ+ individuals, regardless of their substance use behavior. However, illicit drug use by heterosexual individuals resulted in the most negative attitudes.
