Summary: This study explores the potential of modulating discharge mode to generate selective reactive species in plasma-activated saline for bactericidal applications. The comparison of gaseous reactive species at different power levels and flow rates led to the classification of ozone, transition, and nitrogen oxides modes, with the transition mode showing the most prominent bactericidal effect. Nitric oxide, singlet oxygen, and peroxynitrite were identified as playing crucial roles in bacterial inactivation.

Summary: The study investigated the efficient removal of acetaldehyde by humidified air plasma in a honeycomb catalyst reactor at ambient temperature, showing successful oxidation despite high water content in the feed gas. The conversion rate increased significantly with catalyst coating and high energy input, but decreased with increased water content and remained stable within a certain concentration range. This plasma-catalyst system showed promising potential for practical applications in removing acetaldehyde from airborne pollutants.

Summary: This study finds that hematite nanoparticles with specific facet-control can efficiently catalyze the hydrolysis of phthalate esters (PAEs) under ambient humidity conditions. The catalytic performance of hematite depends on the surface atomic array, with the {012} and {104} facets showing much stronger Lewis-acid catalysis. This research provides insights for the development of nanomaterials with appropriate surface atomic arrays and improves our understanding of the natural transformation of PAEs in low humidity environments, offering a promising approach for remediating/purifying ambient air contaminated by PAEs.

Summary: A new method for chemical modification of lignin product using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma at atmospheric pressure is proposed to obtain new products with improved functionalities for manufacturing biocomposite materials. Various spectral analyses and atomic ratio calculations confirmed the grafting reaction of ammonium lignosulfonate and the formation of compounds with special structures and functionalities under cold plasma conditions. The recorded NIR-CI images provided information about the homogeneity of the ALS product.

Summary: A numerical calculation model was developed to study the interaction of nitrogen plasma with electromagnetic waves. It was found that nitrogen plasma has potential in absorbing electromagnetic waves and stealth effect. Comparisons showed that nitrogen plasma has similar uniformity to helium plasma under the same electron density, indicating that nitrogen can improve its broadband absorption properties without loss of uniformity. Analysis of different radio frequency power and pressure revealed the absorption characteristics of nitrogen plasma.

Summary: This paper investigates the degradation effect of high-concentration toluene in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma under different operating conditions. The response surface method is used to comprehensively evaluate the degradation efficiency and energy yield (EY) in the DBD plasma system. The results show that the EY and degradation efficiency can reach 22.17 g kWh(-1) and 72.3% with specific discharge powers, gas flow rates, and initial concentrations. Furthermore, the mineralization effect and the influence of oxygen content on the degradation process are analyzed, highlighting the importance of oxygen and nitrogen-containing active substances in DBD plasma degradation of high-concentration toluene.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamic evolution of plasma optical emission from an array of surface micro-discharges, revealing the interaction between co- and counter-propagating streamers resulting in new streamer fronts with altered velocities and intensities. Additionally, the emergence of secondary streamers is attributed to surface charges accumulated during a prior half cycle and turbulence fluctuations dominated by electrohydrodynamic force.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the surface behaviors of liquid tin in different plasma exposures, observing surface instability leading to droplet ejection. The ejection of droplets was found to be dependent on plasma species, flux, and surface temperature, rather than magnetic fields and plasma currents. Bubble formation, growth, and bursting in plasma-species-supersaturated liquid tin was proposed as the primary mechanism for droplet ejection. The application of capillary porous structures could decrease droplet size and production rate, but not completely avoid droplet ejection.

Summary: Surface-initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization using oxygen (O2-SI-RAFT) was used to impart chiral properties to substrates. Chiral monomers were synthesized and grown onto titanium and glass substrates, forming polymer brushes. The presence of polymer brushes was confirmed through various analyses, including ellipsometry, water contact angles, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. By polymerizing block copolymer brushes through chain extension, the chirality of the polymer brushes grown on glass substrate was confirmed using circular dichroism spectroscopy.
