Summary: A chromium germylyne complex with a Cr-Ge triple bond, [Cp*(OC)2Cr-GeTsi], was synthesized by the photochemical reaction of a methyl chromium complex and a trihydrogermane. The reaction process was monitored by NMR, revealing the formation of a hydrido complex as an intermediate and its release of dihydrogen to afford the final product under UV-vis light irradiation. The structures of the intermediate and final product were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Possible mechanisms for the dihydrogen release from the intermediate were proposed based on TD-DFT calculations.

Summary: Halogen bonding catalysis was introduced into [3+2] cycloaddition reactions of epoxides with CO2, isocyanates, and CS2. By synthesizing a series of halogen bond donors and optimizing the catalyst, high conversions were achieved under specific conditions, transforming epoxides into five-membered heterocycles with high yields and selectivity. H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR titrations confirmed the coordination of the halogen bond donor with the substrate, suggesting a possible mechanism involving halogen bonding activation of epoxides and subsequent ring-opening reactions.

Summary: A highly enantioselective synthesis of chiral dihydro-3H-carbazole-2-carboxylate derivatives is achieved via a one-pot cyclopentannulation-rearrangement cascade reaction. The reaction is catalyzed by nickel(II) perchlorate hexahydrate and scandium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate, and involves the use of 3-methylindole and non-racemic donor-acceptor cyclopropanes. The resulting products show high yields and enantioretention under mild reaction conditions, and further transformation into decarboxylated compounds can be achieved with moderate yields and high enantiomeric purity.

Summary: Novel functionalized fused-ring β-amino lactones and lactams with multiple chiral centers were synthesized from readily available strained bicyclic β-amino acids via a stereocontrolled synthetic route. The key step involved ring-rearrangement metathesis of allyl/propargyl esters or N-allylated/N-propargylated amides of (oxa)norbornene β-amino acids. The RRM transformations were investigated using commercially available catalysts. Importantly, the procedure did not alter the configurations of the chiral centers, meaning that the starting (oxa)norbornene β-amino acids predetermined the configuration of the formed products.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the separation performance of an ethanol-cyclohexane mixture using a thin-film composite membrane made of a heat-treated polyimide. We studied the chemical and structural transformations that occur during the formation of thermally-rearranged and carbon molecular sieve membranes, which significantly impact the properties and separation behavior of the membrane. We achieved excellent separation performance by precise thermal treatment, and highlighted the unique property of pervaporation where the downstream side of the membrane remains dry despite swelling in the upstream region.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of a catalytically active V oxo alkylidene, VO(CHSiMe3)(PEt3)(2)Cl, which shows the highest reported productivity with various terminal olefins in ring-closing metathesis reactions among known V catalysts. Theoretical studies suggest that the beta-hydride elimination pathway is significantly disfavored for V oxo species, which may have important implications for future applications in this field.

Summary: The study investigates the multichannel thermal decomposition reactions of n-propyl radicals, 1-pentyl radicals, and toluene through a two-dimensional master equation. The role of angular momentum in reaction kinetics is emphasized, especially in the thermal decomposition of toluene. Proper treatment of J-dependent channel coupling effect, weak collisional transfer of J, and initial-J-dependent collisional energy transfer are found to be essential for predicting the branching fractions at low pressures.

Summary: Pt/C and SO42-/ZrO2 were used as catalysts for the synthesis of p-aminophenol through the catalytic transfer hydrogenation of nitrobenzene in water with formic acid as the hydrogen source. The optimal Pt loading for PAP selectivity was found to be 1 wt%. The presence of different valence states of Pt affected both the nitrobenzene hydrogenation and formic acid decomposition. Among different solid acid catalysts tested, SO42-/ZrO2 exhibited the highest catalytic activity for p-aminophenol formation. Under the optimized reaction conditions, the conversion of nitrobenzene reached 80.0%, with a selectivity of 47.6% for p-aminophenol.

Summary: The mechanism of the reaction between CO2 and styrene oxide for cyclic carbonate was revealed using density functional theory calculations. The noncatalytic reaction occurred via a concerted mechanism, while in the presence of guanidine and tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) co-catalysts, the epoxide ring-opening by nucleophilic attack of an iodide anion was predicted to be the rate-determining step. Guanidine acted as the H-bond donor to activate styrene oxide, facilitating the reaction with a lower activation barrier.

Summary: Copper nanorods (Cu-NRs) exhibit significant plasmonic behavior and can act as efficient catalysts in redox processes and coupling. A benign decarboxylative approach, utilizing localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) assisted catalysis with Cu-NRs, has been developed for the production of alkane analogues from alkyl carboxylic acids under visible light. The catalyst shows a broad substrate scope and high functional group tolerance, without the need for an external oxidant or proton source. A plausible mechanism for this recyclable nano-catalyst has also been proposed based on control experiments.
