Summary: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder that leads to panacinar emphysema and increases the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in smokers. AATD is caused by mutations in the SERPINA1 gene, which affects the production of alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) protein. AAT not only acts as a protease inhibitor, but also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects. Imbalance in protease/antiprotease levels not only affects the lung parenchyma, but also the small airways.

Different lung pathologies occurred independently of specific NF1 mutations, emphasizing the importance of smoking cessation in preventing pulmonary metastases, MPNST, and centrilobular emphysema.

Summary: Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) is a feasible, safe, effective, and minimally invasive technique that significantly improves the quality of life of advanced severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. This study evaluated the postoperative efficacy of BLVR patients using three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) automatic analysis software and pulmonary function test (PFT). The results confirmed the accurate evaluation of lung volume, ventilation, and perfusion changes with 3D-CT analysis.
