Summary: This study evaluated the association between long-term statin use and diagnosis and mortality of esophageal cancer in a Korean population. The results showed no significant relationship between the duration of statin use and the occurrence or mortality of esophageal cancer in the overall study population.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the 5-year mortality between endoscopically screened and non-screened patients with oral cavity cancer and second primary esophageal cancer. The results showed that endoscopic screening significantly improved early detection of second primary esophageal cancer and reduced all-cause mortality.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) on bone mineral density (BMD) in patients treated with oral bisphosphonates for osteoporosis. The study found that LSS had a negative impact on BMD increase. Ibandronate and alendronate were more effective in treating osteoporosis compared to risedronate, especially in patients with both osteoporosis and LSS.

Summary: The NOTCH1 gene encodes a transmembrane receptor protein with activating mutations observed in various leukemias and lymphomas, leading to interest in targeting NOTCH1 signaling for cancer therapy. Multiple classes of Notch inhibitors have been developed, but current treatments with gamma-secretase inhibitors (GSIs) have faced challenges due to side effects. Further research is needed to identify alternative targets and improve the efficacy of anti-NOTCH1 therapies.

Summary: This study found that high levels of periodontopathic bacteria and Streptococcus anginosus were detected in cancer tissue from patients with esophageal cancer. The prevalence and abundance of certain oral bacteria were significantly higher in the cancer group compared to the control group, suggesting a potential association between oral microbiota and esophageal cancer, with implications for early diagnosis.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes between patients with esophageal cancer who received oral nutrition supplementation (ONS) and a control group. The results showed that ONS was associated with a lower incidence of myelosuppression, especially in patients with a lower BMI. However, ONS was also found to increase hospitalization time and cost.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of two oral zoledronate preparations in postmenopausal women. The results showed that oral zoledronate had a smaller and less sustained anti-resorptive effect compared to intravenous zoledronate. However, oral zoledronate could be a viable option with dosing intervals of weeks to months.

Summary: Our study found that patients with alveolar bone loss involving more than half the root on panoramic radiographs and torus mandibularis are at high risk for developing MRONJ. Early dental intervention before BMA administration and oral management during treatment are important for preventing MRONJ.
