Summary: In this retrospective study of 133 patients undergoing NA therapy for hepatitis B virus reactivation, it was found that high levels of HBsAg at baseline and at the end of therapy were associated with relapse after cessation of NA treatment. In patients with resolved HBV, anti-HBs status could predict the need for NA therapy after reactivation.

Safety, tolerability, and anti-fibrotic efficacy of the CBP/I3-catenin inhibitor PRI-724 in patients with hepatitis C and B virus-induced liver cirrhosis: An investigator-initiated, open-label, non-randomised, multicentre, phase 1/2a study

Summary: This study assessed the safety tolerability and anti-fibrotic effects of PRI-724 in patients with HCV-and HBV-induced cirrhosis. The results showed that PRI-724 did not significantly decrease hepatic fibrosis, but it improved liver stiffness, Model for End-stage Liver Disease score, and serum albumin level significantly.

Phosphotungstic Acid-treated Picrosirius Red Staining Improves Whole-slide Quantitative Analysis of Collagen in Histological Specimens

Summary: This study attempted to prevent non-specific nuclear staining (NS-NS) of picrosirius red (PSR) staining by treating specimens with phosphotungstic acid (PTA). The results showed that PTA + PSR significantly suppressed NS-NS and had the highest correlation with the pathological evaluation of liver fibrosis. Additionally, the study found that non-polarized PSR-stained substances (NP-PSR+S) clinging to collagen fibers potentially explained the higher Sirius Red-positive percentage (SRP%) observed under PSR.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence of HCV infection among HIV-positive MSM in Japan. The results show a high prevalence of HCV infection in this population, and the treatment with direct-acting antivirals is highly effective.

Inhibition of CBP/β-catenin signaling ameliorated fibrosis in cholestatic liver disease

Summary: The study found that the selective CBP/beta-catenin inhibitor PRI-724 can suppress cholestatic liver fibrosis by inhibiting bile acid synthesis and exerting anti-inflammatory effects in hepatocytes. The results also suggest that the Egr-1 gene plays an important role in bile acid synthesis and fibrosis, and the CBP/beta-catenin signaling pathway regulates Egr-1 expression.
