Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the treatment of 959 adult patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) from 2003 to 2013. The study found that healthcare costs associated with ICHs vary between patient groups. Patients aged over 70 with brainstem ICHs and higher ICH scores had the highest costs. Approximately one-third of financial resources were used for patients with favorable outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) and in-hospital and ICU mortality in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The results showed that a high LAR is associated with an increased risk of in-hospital and ICU mortality in ICH patients.

Summary: Airy light-sheet microscopy is gaining importance for imaging intact biological specimens due to its rapid speed, high resolution, and wide field nature. However, the depth of field of the detection objective imposes limitations on the modulation transfer function of the light sheet, affecting the size of the field of view. An optimized phase modulation model based on 'Airy-like' beam family and a planar 'Airy-like' light-sheet by two-photon excitation have been developed to improve resolution and widen the field of view, with potential applications in precise screening of drugs related to cerebral hemorrhage.

Summary: This study investigated the frequency, clinical risk factors, and outcome of bounce back to the neurological ICU in patients admitted after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. The results showed that bounce back to the neurological ICU was not uncommon and was associated with longer hospital stays and higher mortality rates. The study also identified relevant risk factors that could be modified to improve the transition from the neurological ICU to general floor services.

Summary: Higher baseline FGF23 levels were significantly associated with incident intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), particularly in lobar and non-lobar ICH. FGF23 was also significantly associated with fatal ICH, ICH with large volume, and ICH with poor functional outcome. Further studies are needed to determine if this association is causal.

Summary: This study describes the initial Melbourne MSU experience in managing patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and found that mobile stroke units (MSUs) can facilitate ultra-early diagnosis and management of ICH, with some patients bypassed to comprehensive centers with neurosurgical expertise.

Summary: The study describes the development and application of a tool to automatically generate a minimum dataset (MDS) and a set of ICU quality metrics from CIS data. The tool extracts data from the CIS database using an extraction, transform, and load process with Python and creates a new associative database. Results show that the ICU's performance on the analyzed QIs meets the standards proposed by the national scientific society, indicating the potential for using automated tools to monitor and improve ICU care quality.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between computed tomography (CT)-based cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) markers and the clinical outcomes in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA)-related intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The results showed that the SVD markers based on CT could predict the short-term outcome more effectively in patients with CAA-ICH. Further studies are needed to validate these findings and identify modifiable factors for preventing CAA-ICH development.

Summary: The study investigated the topographical and temporal patterns of index and recurrent intracerebral hemorrhages in Dutch-type hereditary Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (D-CAA). Results showed a preference for occipital lobe in both index and recurrent ICHs, with no acceleration in time nor gradual increase of hematoma volume between subsequent ICHs.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of the serum urea-to-albumin ratio on intra-hospital mortality in neurosurgical patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages. The results showed that a higher serum urea-to-albumin ratio upon admission was identified as an independent predictor of intra-hospital mortality.

Summary: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) accounts for 15% of all strokes in the US, yet almost 50% of fatal strokes. The most common causes are hypertension and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Treatment focuses on managing edema, reducing blood pressure, and correcting coagulopathy. Current standard of care includes supportive therapies, but there is no definitive curative therapy like mechanical thrombectomy for ischemic stroke. New medical and surgical approaches show promise in improving ICH management.
