Summary: The study found that preserving porcine pancreata in the MHL solution provided better protection for islet function compared with the UW solution, and the effect of the MHL solution was similar to that of the MK solution.

Summary: This study presents a novel, portable, and nonelectronic device that is capable of delivering oxygenated machine perfusion to different organs. Through an innovative pneumatic circuit system and silicone tube design, the device achieved perfusion parameters consistent with previous kidney preservation studies.

Summary: There is uncertainty about the composition of the perfusate for normothermic kidney perfusion, and the effect of different perfusate components or ischemic conditions on cytokine levels is unclear. Further research is needed to understand the role of leukocyte filters and the changes in cytokine levels during different ischemic conditions.

Summary: This study examines the existing and potential low carbon energy sources in Nunavut that could replace diesel and highlights the interplay of stakeholder acceptability criteria and roadblocks. The findings show a lack of financial incentive for bottom-up change due to subsidized diesel-based electricity and lack of grants for renewable options, as well as conflicting priorities between existing and potential power producers stalling top-down change.

Summary: Although machine perfusion is gradually being applied in clinical practice, the improvement of organ reconditioning therapies is still at the experimental stage, showing a translational gap. This review discusses the biological processes and current strategies and interventions for preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury, treating its deleterious consequences, or supporting the reparative response of the kidney, and explores prospects to improve the clinical translation of these therapies by addressing multiple aspects of ischemia-reperfusion injury to achieve robust and long-lasting protective effects on the kidney graft.

Summary: Short bubble and subsequent intermittent surface oxygenation is an effective and cheap preservation strategy during hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP), which can protect mitochondria and eliminate the need/costs of a membrane oxygenator and oxygen source during transport.

Summary: Kidney transplantation significantly improves endothelial dysfunction in patients with end-stage renal disease, leading to a reduction in cardiovascular risk. However, further research is needed to understand the potential re-emergence of endothelial dysfunction in the long-term postoperative period.

Summary: Although emoji questionnaires are not yet seen as a strong alternative to emotion word questionnaires, they have the potential to earn this right. Their advantages include enhanced ecological validity, familiarity, and cross-culturally shared meanings. However, concerns such as emoji meanings/interpretations, appropriateness for older consumers, and the ability to represent emotional arousal still need to be addressed.

Summary: Nanoparticles are highly diverse in quality and sources of emission. The lack of rules and regulations has led to severe impacts on the environment and human health, with only a few studies assessing their toxic effects. Further research is needed to determine the actual impacts of nanoparticles on the environment and human health.

Summary: Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and more research is needed to understand its distinct phenotypes in patients with CKD. Routine kidney biopsy may be overused in CKD patients with diabetes, and expanding the biopsy criteria may result in more complications. Limited resources should be allocated optimally for early diagnosis and preventive treatment.
