This protocol describes a growth medium-based approach for obtaining cochlear endothelial cells (ECECs), pericytes (PCPCs) and perivascular resident macrophage-like melanocytes (PVM/Ms) from the stria vascularis of mice aged between P10 and P15 (P, postnatal day). The procedure does not involve mechanical or enzymatic digestion of the sample tissue. Explants of stria vascularis, 'mini-chips', are selectively cultured in growth medium, and primary cell lines are obtained in 7-10 d. The method is simple and reliable, and it provides high-quality ECECs, PVM/Ms and PCPCs with a purity >90% after two passages. This protocol is suitable for producing primary culture cells from organs and tissues of small volume and high anatomical complexity, such as the inner ear capillaries. The highly purified primary cell lines enable cell culture-based in vitro modeling of cell-cell interactions, barrier control function and drug action.

Arwa A. Faizo, Asma A. Bawazir, Majed N. N. Almashjary, Ahmed M. M. Hassan, Fadi S. S. Qashqari, Ahmed S. S. Barefah, Sherif A. A. El-Kafrawy, Thamir A. A. Alandijany, Esam I. I. Azhar

Summary: This study investigated the effect of iron deficiency on COVID-19-vaccine-induced humoral immunity. The comparison between iron-deficient individuals and healthy controls showed no significant difference in the production of neutralizing antibodies. The use of NP-based ELISA identified individuals unaware of exposure to SARS-CoV-2. In conclusion, there is currently a lack of evidence regarding the association between iron deficiency and the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines, and larger studies are needed for comprehensive conclusions.

Coaxially swirled porous disks flow simultaneously induced by mixed convection with morphological effect of metallic/metallic oxide nanoparticles

Qadeer Raza, Xiaodong Wang, Ahmed M. Hassan, Imran Siddique, Bagh Ali, Irfan Ali

Summary: This study focuses on the numerical modeling of coaxially swirling porous disk flow subject to the combined effects of mixed convection and chemical reactions. Numerical investigations were conducted to analyze the morphologies of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and copper (Cu) nanoparticles under the influence of magnetohydrodynamics. A model considering the aggregate nanoparticle volume fraction based on single-phase simulation, along with the energy and mass transfer equations, was developed for the flow of hybrid nanofluids. The high-order, nonlinear, ordinary differential equations obtained from the governing system of nonlinear partial differential equations were solved numerically by the Runge-Kutta technique and the shooting method.

Summary: The current study investigates the flow of micropolar liquid in a saturated permeable medium sandwiched between clear and hybrid nanofluids in an inclined channel, considering radiation and dissipation effects. Copper and Aluminium oxide nanoparticles are included along with the base (water) fluid. The solution for velocity, micro rotational velocity, and temperature is obtained using regular perturbation technique. The study analyzes the heat transport rate, shear stress, and temperature for different physical parameters through graphs and tables, revealing the effects of material and magnetic parameters.

Thermal conductivity performance in sodium alginate-based Casson nanofluid flow by a curved Riga surface

K. V. Nagaraja, K. Vinutha, J. K. Madhukesh, Umair Khan, Jasgurpreet Singh Chohan, El-Sayed M. Sherif, Ioannis E. Sarris, Ahmed M. Hassan, B. Shanker

Summary: This study investigates the effects of porous media and thermal radiation on the movement of Casson-based nano liquid over a curved surface. The governing equations are simplified using similarity variables and solved numerically. The findings show that increased curvature improves velocity but decreases temperature, while increased modified Hartmann number raises velocity but decreases porosity parameter. Thermal radiation raises temperature, while modified Hartmann numbers and Casson factor lower velocity but increase thermal profile. The research findings have potential applications in the design of heat exchangers and microscale engines.

Influence of buoyancy and viscous dissipation effects on 3D magneto hydrodynamic viscous hybrid nano fluid (MgO- TiO2) under slip conditions

Shuguang Li, Sana Akbar, Muhammad Sohail, Umar Nazir, Abha Singh, Mashael Alanazi, Ahmed M. Hassan

Summary: This study focuses on the application of magnetized hybrid nanofluid in engineering and advanced industrial processes, and investigates the effect of suspended nano-size particles on the fluid flow using buoyancy and viscous dissipation. A numerical model of three-dimensional hybrid nanofluid flow is developed, considering the heat transmission phenomenon and the influence of parameters such as magnetic parameter M, slip parameter K, rotation parameter λ, and buoyancy parameter λb. The velocity and temperature distributions are determined using the Runge-Kutta (4th order) method, and the influence of various parameters on the flow behavior is graphically presented. The results are validated numerically and will contribute significantly to the field of fluid mechanics.
