The Role of Ferroptosis in Blood-Brain Barrier Injury

Yao Zhao, Ying Liu, Yunfei Xu, Kexin Li, Lin Zhou, Haoduo Qiao, Qing Xu, Jie Zhao

Summary: The blood-brain barrier is an important barrier that maintains homeostasis in the central nervous system. Dysfunction of the blood-brain barrier can lead to brain edema and neuronal cell death, and ferroptosis has been found to play a crucial role in this process.

COX-2/PGE2 Pathway Inhibits the Ferroptosis Induced by Cerebral Ischemia Reperfusion

Yunfei Xu, Ying Liu, Kexin Li, Dun Yuan, Shun Yang, Lin Zhou, Yao Zhao, Shuying Miao, Caihong Lv, Jie Zhao

Summary: This study found that cerebral ischemia reperfusion can induce ferroptosis, while PGE2 inhibits ferroptosis by reducing Fe2+, glutathione oxidation, and lipid peroxidation. In contrast, the COX-2 inhibitor pranoprofen plays an opposite role in regulating ferroptosis.

Case Report: Dual-Energy Computed Tomography of Cardiac Changes in IgG4-Related Disease

Ying Wang, Hui Zhou, Ping Hu, Jie Zhao, Yitao Mao, Zhixiao Li, Xi Zhao

Summary: This study reported the first findings of cardiac morphology and function in IgG4-related diseases (IgG4-RD) using dual-energy computed tomography (DECT). DECT can detect and assess the morphological, functional, and histological characteristics of the coronary artery and myocardium, which is of great significance for individualized treatment and avoiding complications.

The role of ferroptosis in neurodegenerative diseases

Yunfei Xu, Jie Zhao, Yao Zhao, Lin Zhou, Haoduo Qiao, Qing Xu, Ying Liu

Summary: Ferroptosis, a newly identified form of programmed cell death, is characterized by iron-dependent intracellular accumulation of lipid peroxides and is associated with oxidative stress and various diseases. Interventions targeting ferroptosis can influence the course of neurodegenerative diseases, making it a potential therapeutic target.

P2rx1 deficiency alleviates acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure by regulating the STING signaling pathway

Yeping Yu, Ling Chang, Qingluan Hu, Jianjun Zhu, Jianjun Zhang, Qiang Xia, Jie Zhao

Summary: This study revealed that P2RX1 is involved in mitochondria dysfunction and immune-mediated inflammation in acetaminophen-induced liver injury (AILI). P2RX1 depletion offers protection against AILI by inhibiting cell death and promoting inflammation resolution. The blockade of P2RX1 shows promise as a therapeutic approach for AILI.

Anoikis-related signature in liver hepatocellular carcinoma defines the YBX1/SPP1 axis by machine learning strategies and valid experiments

Ying Ma, Xingguo She, Jie Zhao, Shu Liu, Cai Li, Qiang Wang

Summary: In this study, an Anoikis-related score model was created using machine learning algorithms and it accurately predicted the immunological activity, altered genes, and medication sensitivity in LIHC patients. The role of SPP1 in LIHC cell proliferation and migration was investigated and it was found to be a mediator in LIHC. The established Anoikis-related score is expected to significantly benefit the clinical care and treatment plan for LIHC patients.
