Summary: Willem van Zwet made significant contributions to probability and statistics, particularly in higher order asymptotics of nonlinear statistics and properties of symmetric statistics. His students Fiocco and De Gunst developed statistical inference methods in the contact process and cell population development under his guidance. Van Zwet also solved intriguing problems outside his main research interests.

Summary: This study aims to improve the light-based stemmer algorithm for Arabic language by proposing an appropriate list of suffixes and prefixes and implementing rules based on word length. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm achieved the best performance compared to existing stemmers.

Summary: One of the most important phases in text processing is stemming, and the morphological structure of Arabic language poses challenges for stemming algorithms. This paper presents a new algorithm, BPR, to solve the problem of irregular broken plurals in Arabic language processing. The algorithm introduces rules to extract correct roots and shows promising results in evaluations.

Summary: A series of novel spirobisbenzoxazole-based polyimides were synthesized, which exhibited good organic solubility, improved gas permeability, ultra-micropore distribution and high BET surface areas, as well as excellent thermal and mechanical properties. The effects of rotation restriction and thermal annealing process on gas permeation behavior were also studied.

Summary: The study investigated novel pan-Pim kinase inhibitors with imidazopyridazine and thiazolidinedione structure, which showed high inhibitory activities against Pim kinases in various cancer cell lines. The compounds suppressed Pim kinase substrate phosphorylation, induced cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, and triggered apoptosis in cultured cancer cells. In tumor xenograft models, the compounds exhibited antitumor activities, suggesting potential as effective inhibitors for various types of cancer cells.

Summary: Branched forms of PIM-1 and PIM-Py can be crosslinked under ambient conditions using palladium acetate. The use of high dilution and a high set temperature in the polymerization reaction leads to the formation of branched PIM-1. The crosslinked PIM-1 and PIM-Py membranes exhibit sufficient stability in organic solvents and can be used for the pervaporation separation of toluene and DMSO.

Summary: Semi-ladder high-molecular polynaphthoylenebenzimidazoles (PNBI) were synthesized and demonstrated excellent mechanical properties after thermal cyclization. PNBI was found to be located near the upper bound of the Robeson diagram for various gas pairs and exhibited lower gas diffusion coefficients and higher gas solubility coefficients. The high diffusion selectivity of PNBI makes it a suitable candidate for organic molecular sieves.

Summary: Pim kinases are constitutively active serine/threonine kinases that play important roles in cell survival, proliferation, and migration. They have been primarily studied in cancer progression, but recent research indicates their involvement in cardiovascular diseases as well. Pim kinases are widely expressed in cardiovascular tissues and upregulated in various co-morbidities/risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Therefore, targeting Pim kinases may be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular events in high-risk individuals.

Summary: We investigate the saturation effects on modulational instability (MI) in a model of three-core PIM-NIM-PIM coupler with Kerr-type saturable nonlinearity. The analytical results show significant changes in MI gain compared to previous studies without saturable parameter. Power and nonlinear parameters are found to be effective in controlling MI. Numerical simulation reveals the generation of periodic solitons in the presence of nonlinear saturation, while in the absence of saturable parameter, solitons transform into a turbulent state and MI occurs.

Summary: A phonemicization or grapheme-to-phoneme conversion (G2P) is a process of converting a word into its pronunciation. Traditional machine learning (ML) based G2P models combined with specific linguistic knowledge are suitable for low-resource languages, but there is still room for improvement due to various issues. In this study, an Indonesian G2P model based on n-gram combined with stemmer and phonotactic rules (NGTSP) is proposed to address these problems, achieving a lower PER and faster processing time.
