Summary: This study presents a process to form micron-scale inverse cones in crystalline silicon without masking steps using a selective, low-temperature plasma process. The selectivity of the process comes from H-2 plasma preferentially etching away amorphous cones, leaving behind the crystalline material. The etch depth of amorphous cones is directly linked to exposure time to plasma, resulting in structures with useful optical properties such as low reflectance and iridescence.

Summary: In this study, flexible structures resembling micro-nano pillars, setae, and cilia found on natural organism surfaces were created using a novel fabricating strategy to investigate the phenomenon and mechanism of droplet formation. By adjusting the mold pattern, different micro/nano morphologies could be easily obtained on a smooth film surface. The film, with its uniformly distributed hierarchical micro-nano structure arrays, demonstrated superhydrophobicity, low-adhesion, self-cleaning, anti-icing, and deicing characteristics, making it suitable for various engineering applications.

Summary: A biocatalytic route towards N-alkanoyl-N-methylglucamides (MEGAs) and analogues was developed using a modified carboxylic acid reductase construct (CARmm-A). The selective formation of amide bonds was achieved without competing reactions. Reaction optimization resulted in reduced amine concentration requirements, enabling efficient amide formation. The wide substrate scope of CARmm-A was demonstrated through the synthesis of 24 commercially relevant amides.

Summary: This study presents a single-step polyol-solvothermal synthesis strategy for the synthesis of zero, one, two, and three-dimension silver structures by simply switching the reaction pressure with the help of silver amount and halide ions. This strategy eliminates the need for oxygen scavengers, inert gases, or adjustments to injection and stirring speeds.

Summary: We have conducted a detailed study on the synthesis and aldehyde vinylogation applications of chiral N-sulfinyl imine phosphonate reagents. Two scalable reagent routes, from trialkyl phosphites and methyl phosphonates, respectively, have been proposed. This reagent class allows for a more streamlined synthesis of conjugated Ellman imines from aldehydes, simplifying the process from a classic 4-step redox-based approach to a single step. Optimization of aldehyde vinylogation has revealed significant counterion effects and unexpected competing reaction challenges.

Summary: A rapid and sensitive multicolor colormetric method for detecting hexavalent chromium ion in aqueous solution was established using gold nano-double cone@silver nanorods. The method showed high sensitivity and good linearity, with a detection limit of 1.69 μM. The color changes of the nanomaterial allowed for naked-eye detection of Cr6+ with significant accuracy.
