Summary: Co-packaged optics in next-generation datacenters require a novel photonic packaging substrate with high precision optical alignment and electrical connectivity, allowing assembly of multiple components and interconnection with optical fibers. Glass substrate optimization includes optical waveguides, fiber connectors, and chip interfaces, enabling surface mounted flip-chip assembly and precise alignment for photonic components and electrical integrated circuits. Evanescent coupling enables flip-chip assembly of photonic components with low interface loss, while glass waveguides can transmit light with minimal propagation loss.

Summary: We developed a novel multifunctional nanocone array as a solid immunoassay plate and SERS substrate for the simultaneous detection of PSA and thrombin based on a microfluidic chip. Compared to traditional immunoassays, this nanocone array with a deposited gold film provides a larger surface area for efficient target antigen capture. By integrating this microfluidic chip, we achieved simultaneous detection of PSA and thrombin with high sensitivity. This detection strategy shows great potential for early prostate cancer diagnosis.

Summary: In this study, SiOx films were deposited on a cylindrical substrate using a radially arranged plasma jet array. The properties of the deposited films, including surface morphology, film thickness, elemental composition, and chemical structure, were systematically studied. The effect of surface modification on insulation improvement in a gas insulated transmission line system was also investigated. The results showed that the plasma jet array deposition method could produce SiOx films with good uniformity and improved insulation performance.

Summary: Far-field optical beam steering is achieved by conveniently tuning the wavelength of nonmechanical optical phased arrays. However, the dispersion of the waveguide and in-line backscattering on-chip limit the efficiency and accuracy of beam steering. To overcome these limitations, a robust and back-reflection-free topological photonic integrated circuit is proposed, where different functionalities are defined by the strategic arrangements of lattices with different topological modulations controlled by a single lattice deformation parameter. By applying an extra band flattening, far-field steering with high wavelength sensitivity is achieved.

Summary: Preparation of reusable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates with high sensitivity and stability is crucial for practical SERS applications. In this study, a SERS substrate based on silver-decorated SnO2 nanocone arrayed thin film (Ag/SnO2) was prepared using cost-effective techniques. The substrate exhibited excellent performance with a high enhancement factor and low detection limit for the detection of rhodamine 6G (R6G). The observed SERS performance is attributed to the synergistic charge transfer between silver nanoparticles, SnO2 nanocones, and R6G molecules.

Summary: The generation of an array of photonic hooks (PHs) through a multi-dielectric structure has been systematically studied. The study focuses on the effects of the geometric and optical parameters of the structure on the characteristics of the generated PHs. The results show that parameters such as spacing, size, and refractive index play a significant role in shaping the PHs array.

Summary: A theoretically designed rotating shadow mask is proposed to optimize the uniformity of a simple rotation system, allowing the fabrication of large-aperture optical components using the width of the coating chamber. The shape of the rotating shadow mask is determined through simulation and discussion, and an additional fixed shadow mask is used to improve the uniformity of the entire substrate.

Summary: An experimental investigation of electron beam physical vapour deposition of Ti, Au, and Ag metals on HOPG substrate to form HOPG-M thin films was conducted. The films were characterized using various techniques, revealing differences in morphology, topography, and surface chemistry among the metals. Raman and FTIR analyses showed variations in molecular structures and the presence of different functional groups on the thin films. The findings suggest the potential of HOPG as a substrate for preparing various M thin films.

Summary: Understanding the deposition mechanism of cold-sprayed GaN coatings on stainless steel substrates is important for controlling coating formation. This study investigated the formation mechanisms by analyzing the oxide layer thickness and microstructures using X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the formation of a new interfacial oxide layer and local heteroepitaxy near the newly formed gallium oxide interface enhanced the coating formation. The study proposed insights into the formation mechanisms of cold-sprayed GaN coatings, which can support a wider range of ceramic/metal combinations in the future.
