Megasporoporia violacea is distinguished in the genus by having greyish violet to pale fawn brown pore surface, smaller pores (5-7 per mm), abundant dendrohyphidia, and cylindrical to oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores, and by lacking of hyphal pegs. All identification key to Megasporoporia species is provided.
