Summary: This study characterized mature biofilms of various Candida species obtained from the oral mucosa of children, adults, and elders. It was found that children were more likely to be infected by non-Candida albicans Candida species (NCACs) and these NCACs formed biofilms richer in matrix components. This finding is clinically important, especially in pediatric care, due to the association of stronger biofilms with antimicrobial resistance, recurrent infections, and higher therapeutic failure.

Summary: Imidazolium ionic liquids with alkyl or alkyloxymethyl chains and a natural menthol substituent showed high antifungal and antiadhesive properties against various Candida species. They disrupted fungal plasma membranes without significant hemolytic properties, inhibiting biofilm formation on different denture materials. The compounds could potentially be used as anti-fungal denture cleaners or fixatives, with low toxicity towards mammalian erythrocytes.

Summary: We investigated the echinocandin susceptibility and FKS1 genotypes in clinical isolates of Candida auris from patients in Salvador, Brazil. Three isolates with a novel FKS1 mutation were found to be resistant to echinocandins, causing elevated minimum inhibitory concentrations. Introduction of the Fks1 W691L mutation into susceptible strains also resulted in increased resistance to echinocandins.

Summary: The study found that cyclic analogs of ultrashort cationic lipopeptides exhibited enhanced antifungal activity against vaginal candidiasis compared to their linear analogs. Summary: This study used a microfluidic technique to analyze the real-time formation of mono- and dual-species biofilms and noninvasive optical treatment. The results showed that the dual-species biofilm had the highest coverage, and the Staphylococcus aureus biofilm developed faster than the Candida albicans biofilm. Additionally, the 405-nm laser had a significant bactericidal effect on both the Staphylococcus aureus biofilm and the dual-species biofilm.
