Summary: This study investigates the effects of out-of-autoclave processing parameters on the void content of glass/epoxy composites. Void quality measurement was conducted using ultrasonic C-scan combined with image processing algorithm and burn off testing. The results showed that the type of mould release, edge breather, debulking, and intensifier as the variable processing parameters influenced the void content of the glass/epoxy composites.

Summary: This paper experimentally investigates the influence of stirrup locks on the post-peak behaviour of reinforced concrete columns and finds that the design of stirrup locks significantly affects the robustness of the columns. The current regulations and recommendations do not sufficiently address this issue.

Summary: NAFLD is common in Germany, with 4.66% of insured individuals diagnosed in 2018. First-time diagnoses accounted for 0.87%, with NASH being rare at 0.09%. Data shows an increasing trend in NAFLD diagnoses over time, with little change in annual incident cases. Patients with metabolic syndrome have a higher risk of being diagnosed with NAFLD.

Summary: This study investigated how the wettability of boron carbide surface can be manipulated by laser with parameters such as scan speed and overlap rate. The Taguchi method was used to analyze the effects of different laser parameters on the contact angle of the treated surface, with scan speed and overlap rate being identified as the most effective parameters in optimizing the results. Verification tests confirmed the reliability of the Taguchi method in optimizing laser parameters for controlling the hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity properties of the surface.

Summary: The purpose of the study is to investigate the potential of using granite as a replacement for quartz sand in the production of fly ash-based geopolymer. The study examines the effects of different proportions of granite flour on the strength properties of geopolymer mortar. The results show that granite can be successfully utilized as a replacement for quartz sand and can improve the strength properties of geopolymers compared to using quartz sand.

Summary: On June 22, 2023, a bill to revise the law on sanctions, including hospitalization in an addiction treatment facility, was adopted by the German Parliament. The amendment to Section 64 of the German Criminal Code came into effect on October 1, 2023. The question of changes regarding the allocation of delinquents to forensic psychiatric hospitals and prisons, as well as the outcome of forensic addiction treatment, is being discussed by courts, experts, hospitals, and the prison system. A retrospective file analysis was conducted on a sample of 70 male patients who were accommodated in a forensic psychiatric hospital in Germany. The findings suggest that the amendment may have an impact on the number of patients and successful treatments.

Summary: This article investigates the susceptibility of concrete to fire-induced explosive spalling, focusing on the influence of the physical and chemical properties of hardened cement paste. Experimental tests were conducted to verify three hypotheses regarding the contribution of specific characteristics to the spalling propensity of concrete. The evaluation of the experiments identified the main mechanisms causing explosive spalling.

Summary: This article examines the participation rates in referendums in German federal states between 1946 and 2019, using Rational Choice Theory to identify three key factors that affect participation rates: high expected benefits for voters, reduced participation costs, and expected close results. This research can provide valuable insights for future empirical research on referendum participation in Germany.

Summary: External goods have a significant impact on the climate footprints of countries and companies, but capturing these greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain can be challenging. Input-output analysis methods can help estimate emissions in supply chains and provide insights for improvement in calculations.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of natural organic additive cellulose on the preparation, morphology, and thermal properties of polypropylene fibers. A series of modified polypropylene fibers with different cellulose content (ranging from 0 wt.% to 3 wt.%) were prepared using the traditional process of melt spinning and drawing. The non-isothermal crystallization and melting behavior of the fibers were analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry tests, and the surface morphology and cross-sectional shapes were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results were compared with reference polypropylene fibers prepared under the same technological conditions.

Summary: The particulates from recycled construction material tend to generate dust due to wide particle size distribution, which is often an unintended side effect released in gaseous environment, resulting in a loss of resources and negative impacts on people and the environment. In this study, various mineral materials with different size distribution but identical moisture content were investigated for their tendency to generate dust.

Summary: In two studies on the prevention of type 1 diabetes, an acceleration of metabolic deterioration was found as a turning point starting 1-2 years before diagnosis. The exact timing of when this acceleration begins is still lacking. Ismail et al. investigated the relationship between glucose and C-peptide during the progression to type 1 diabetes, which pointed to this turning point.
