Summary: The study evaluates the proximity of the tendon stripper to the peroneal and sural nerves during PLT autograft harvesting. Distances between the tendon stripper and nerves were found to be greater than 5mm during full-thickness PLT harvest, with an initial incision at 2cm proximal to LM being recommended.

Summary: Acute calcific tendinitis of the longus colli muscle is an inflammatory response caused by the deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals, typically associated with whiplash and overuse injuries. It presents as acute but progressive neck pain. Emergency physicians should be aware of this rare but important cause of neck pain when distinguishing between life-threatening conditions and non-life-threatening causes.

Summary: Fibromatosis colli, also known as sternocleidomastoid tumor of infancy, is a rare condition affecting newborns that can lead to congenital muscular torticollis and cranial deformities. Ultrasound is the preferred diagnostic imaging modality for this condition, helping to avoid unnecessary intervention.

Summary: The study found that reconstruction of the longus colli muscle and anterior longitudinal ligament can effectively improve swallowing function in the early postoperative period after anterior cervical surgery. The reconstruction group had a significantly lower incidence of dysphagia and higher SWAL-QOL scores compared to the non-reconstruction group at 2 days, 1 week, and 1 month postoperatively. However, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of dysphagia incidence and SWAL-QOL scores at 3 months and 6 months postoperatively. Additionally, there were no significant differences in average prevertebral soft tissue thickness between the groups during the postoperative follow-up period.

Summary: We present a case report of a young female with acute neck pain, odynophagia, and fever. The symptoms raised possible differential diagnoses including meningitis and retropharyngeal abscess. Subsequent radiological investigations confirmed the diagnosis as acute calcific tendonitis of the longus colli muscle. Typical clinical presentations and radiological findings of this rare condition are discussed.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between point-of-care-ultrasonography (POCUS)-measured sarcopenia and grip strength, as well as the history of prior-year falls among older adults admitted to the emergency department observation unit (EDOU). The study found that POCUS-measured thigh muscle thickness and normal grip strength were positively correlated with a history of prior-year falls. Therefore, measuring thigh muscle thickness can identify high-risk individuals for falls.

Summary: This paper introduces two fair and efficient route guidance control schemes, proportional fairness and anticipatory control, to address equity issues and improve efficiency in a large-size urban network. The results show that both schemes enhance fairness and maintain efficiency, with anticipatory control providing smoother guidance ratios compared to proportional fairness.

Summary: Novel ultrasound methods were used to assess qualitative changes in QRF muscle of mechanically ventilated, long-stay ICU patients with suspected neuromuscular acquired weakness. The study found that patients diagnosed with ICUAW had increased muscle stiffness associated with muscle fibrosis, as shown by shear wave elastography (SWE). Additionally, superb microvascular imaging (SMI) revealed significantly lower QRF muscle microvascular angiogenic activity in patients compared to controls.

Summary: The contralateral C7 transfer has been used for the treatment of brachial plexus root avulsion since 1986. The Xu's CC7 procedure offers a safer and more efficient technique for contralateral C7 to C7 cross nerve transfer, reducing surgical trauma, surgery time, postoperative recovery time, and nerve regeneration time. The detailed description in this article provides meaningful information for surgeons interested in the procedure.

Summary: The study revealed a significant association between urine pH levels and skeletal muscle mass, particularly in men, women, and non-obese individuals. This suggests that urine analysis could be a convenient and cost-effective way to assess individuals with low muscle mass and predict sarcopenia.

Summary: The commonly taught notion that intratesticular lesions are always malignant and extratesticular scrotal lesions are always benign is oversimplified and overlooks the importance of extratesticular scrotal masses and their diagnosis. This article presents a framework for differential diagnosis of extratesticular scrotal masses, discusses the range of pathologic conditions that can be encountered, and familiarizes radiologists with the sonographic appearances of these lesions. It also highlights the importance of recognizing findings that warrant additional imaging or surgery, and the potential use of scrotal MRI when ultrasound is inconclusive.
