We present a detailed analysis of the Chandra High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) and XMM-Newton high-resolution spectra of the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy, Mrk 290. The Chandra HETGS spectra reveal complex absorption features that can be best described by a combination of three ionized absorbers. The outflow velocities of these warm absorbers are about 450 km s(-1), consistent with the three absorption components found in a previous far-UV study. The ionizing continuum of Mrk 290 fluctuated by a factor of 1.4 during Chandra observations on a time-scale of 17 d. Using the response in opacity of the three absorbers to this fluctuation, we put a lower limit on the distance from the ionizing source of 0.9 pc for the medium ionized absorber and an upper limit on a distance of 2.5 pc for the lowest ionized absorber. The three ionization components lie on the stable branch of the thermal equilibrium curve, indicating roughly the same gas pressure. Therefore, the thermal wind from the torus is most likely the origin of warm absorbing gas in Mrk 290. During the XMM-Newton observation, the ionizing luminosity was 50 per cent lower compared to that in the Chandra observation. The Reflection Grating Spectrometer spectrum is well fitted by a two-phase warm absorber, with several additional absorption lines attributed to a Galactic high-velocity cloud, complex C. Neither the ionization parameter xi nor the column density N-H of the two absorbing components varied significantly, compared to the results from Chandra observations. The outflow velocities of both components were 1260 km s(-1). We suggest that an entirely new warm absorber from the torus passed through our line of sight. Assuming the torus wind model, the estimated mass outflow rate is similar to 0.1 M-circle dot per year while the nuclear accretion rate is similar to 0.04 M-circle dot per year. The OVII and Ne IX forbidden lines are the most prominent soft X-ray emission lines, with a mean redshift of 700 km s(-1) relative to the systematic velocity. There seems to be no relation between emission lines and warm absorbers.

TeV Cosmic-Ray Nucleus Acceleration in Shell-type Supernova Remnants with Hard γ-Ray Spectra

Houdun Zeng, Yuliang Xin, Shuinai Zhang, Siming Liu

Summary: Recent multiwavelength observations show that HESS J1912+101 may represent a peculiar stage of SNR evolution dominating the acceleration of TeV cosmic rays. Analysis of multiple SNRs suggests that gamma-ray emission mainly originates from SNRs with hard gamma-ray spectra.

Summary: X-ray polarimetry has been considered a 'holy grail' in X-ray astronomy, and after more than 40 years, the field is now experiencing a resurgence. Recent successful operation of an X-ray polarimeter on a Cube-sat nano-satellite has paved the way for future missions such as IXPE and eXTP, which are expected to be launched in 2021 and 2027 respectively. Although the specific discoveries of these missions are hard to predict due to their exploratory nature, plans for follow-up missions are already being formulated.

Summary: SS433 is the only known Galactic binary system that persistently accretes at highly super-critical rates. Observations with NuSTAR in the hard X-ray band across multiple phases revealed intriguing findings about the system's inner regions. The discovery of a narrow, approximately 100 second lag provides insight into atomic processes in outflowing material, potentially allowing for the mapping of a super-critical outflow for the first time.

NOEMA spatially resolved view of the multiphase outflow in IRAS17020+4544: a shocked wind in action?

Anna Lia Longinotti, Q. Salome, C. Feruglio, Y. Krongold, S. Garcia-Burillo, M. Giroletti, F. Panessa, C. Stanghellini, O. Vega, V. M. Patino-alvarez, V Chavushyan, M. Elias-Chavez, A. Robleto-Orus

Summary: This paper reports on NOEMA observations to constrain the spatial scale of the molecular outflow in the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy IRAS17020 + 4544. The high-velocity gas in the outflow is not coincident with the rotation pattern of the CO gas in the host galaxy disc. The estimated mass outflow rate shows that this powerful galaxy-scale outflow is consistent with energy conservation.

Multiband Weighting of X-Ray Polarization Data

Herman L. Marshall

Summary: This study derives an optimal estimate for Stokes parameters in X-ray astronomy, particularly for sources with instruments that have modulation factors varying significantly with energy and weak or mildly polarized signals. Optimal estimators are provided for both binned and unbinned data, showing significant improvement in polarization measurement by broadening the band of analysis or improving the modulation factor, with potential additional enhancement through methods like using neural networks. The level of improvement achieved depends on the spectral shape and instrument response functions.
