Summary: This study demonstrates that statins can suppress hyperlipidemia-induced CaOx nephrolithiasis by restoring the expression of anti-lithic protein, leading to a decrease in renal CaOx stone deposits and a change in the dominant calcium crystal composition.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the renal function profile and associated factors in Asian renal stone formers. The results showed that reduced renal function varies between ethnicities and all age groups of patients, and is associated with factors such as age, ethnicity, diabetes, and hypertension.

Summary: This study reveals the close relationship between urolithiasis and the urinary microbiome, and provides detailed analysis of the urobiome on different sides using sequencing techniques. The results show significant differences in the urobiome between different sides, suggesting different roles in stone formation. The findings have important implications for guiding the selection of appropriate medical treatments.

Summary: The study found that dual energy computed tomography can accurately identify and classify renal stones, providing support for clinical decision-making. The results suggest that CT systems using fast kV switching have the potential to be a low-dose diagnostic tool for precise localization and classification of renal stones in vivo.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the dose-response effect of hydrochlorothiazide agents for preventing the recurrence of kidney stones. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the incidence of recurrent stones among patients receiving hydrochlorothiazide at doses of 12.5 mg, 25 mg, or 50 mg compared to placebo. However, the use of hydrochlorothiazide was associated with a higher risk of adverse reactions.

Summary: Preoperative ipsilateral renal function may affect the success of kidney stone removal with flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy. A predictive model based on stone volume, lower calyx stones, age, body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate was developed and verified with a mean area under the curve of 0.715.

Summary: This single-center retrospective cohort study evaluated the risk of repeat surgery and stone-related events after flexible ureteroscopy for renal stones. Factors such as younger age, history of stone surgery, larger preoperative stone burden, and larger residual fragment were associated with future intervention. The study proposed a simple predictive tool based on these risk factors to stratify patients and guide treatment decisions.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of different interventions for urolithiasis and analyzed the association with various risk factors. The results showed that patients who received lithotripsy had a higher risk of repeat treatment, especially those who underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Age, season, level of care, and comorbidities were also found to be closely related to repeat treatment rates.

Summary: The composition of urinary stones is closely related to gender and age. Calcium oxalate and uric acid stones are more common in men. The proportions of different crystal forms provide clues to the formation of stones. The peak incidence of urinary stones occurs during the most active phase of working life.

Summary: Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a rare but serious complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD). Effluent MMP-2 levels were significantly higher in EPS patients compared to normal PD patients, and both MMP-2 levels and PD duration were independently associated with EPS risks. A nomogram based on effluent MMP-2 levels and PD duration may accurately predict EPS.

Summary: Urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB) is a common genitourinary cancer. CA125, a well-known tumor marker for ovarian cancer, can be used as a diagnostic marker for advanced UCB. This meta-analysis reviewed published studies in English and Chinese and found that serum CA125 can help distinguish advanced UCB from non-advanced UCB patients.

Summary: In community-dwelling elderly individuals, dyslipidemia is associated with geriatric functional impairment, while hypertension and diabetes are not. Lower renal function is linked to decreased mobility and nutrition in this population. Further research is needed to investigate whether treating dyslipidemia can reduce geriatric functional impairment.
