There has been an increase in research published on information behavior in recent years, and this has been accompanied by an increase in its diversity and interaction with other fields, particularly information retrieval. The aims of this study are to determine which researchers have contributed to producing the current body of knowledge on this subject, and to describe its intellectual basis. A bibliometric and network analysis was applied to authorship and co-authorship as well as citation and co-citation. According to these analyses, there is a small number of authors who can be considered to be the most productive and who publish regularly, and a large number of transient ones. Other findings reveal a marked predominance of theoretical works, some examples of qualitative methodology that originate in other areas of social science, and a high incidence of research focused on the user interaction with information retrieval systems and the information behavior of doctors.

In the later years, non-AIDS conditions, including liver disease, cardiovascular events, non-AIDS cancers, and kidney insufficiency, have become more common reasons for hospital admissions. The rate of in-hospital deaths among HIV-infected individuals has also declined, with AIDS-related conditions being the leading cause of death, followed by liver disease, cardiovascular events, non-AIDS cancers, and kidney insufficiency.

Diffusion of theories and theoretical models in the Ibero-American research on information behavior

Aurora Gonzalez-Teruel, Carlos-Alberto-Avila Araujo, Martha Sabelli

Summary: Research on information behavior in the Ibero-American region lacks visibility and is not well-known outside the area. The study reveals a limited use of empirical methods and a moderate to minimal use of theoretical frameworks in the research conducted in the past decade. However, the most cited theories and models internationally are also widely applied in this geographical area, demonstrating a diverse range of theoretical perspectives. Future research should delve deeper into this issue, considering other types of documents and the publication landscape of the region.

Ana M. Greco, Georgina Guilera, Laura Maldonado-Murciano, Juana Gomez-Benito, Maite Barrios

Summary: This study proposes the necessary condition analysis (NCA) as a complement to classic effect size measures in interpreting data. By testing the link between independent variables and a relevant outcome in a sample, the study compares and interprets the traditional and NCA results, and suggests that NCA can provide valuable and applicable information in correlation analyses.

A Mixed Methods Approach for Studying Relevant Areas of Functioning in Schizophrenia

Maite Barrios, Alba Aza, Jose R. Chimelis-Santiago, Juana Gomez-Benito, Georgina Guilera

Summary: The purpose of this study is to describe how a mixed methods approach was used to gain a better understanding of functioning in schizophrenia. A two-phase design was employed, with preparatory studies conducted to identify areas of convergence, followed by a consensus conference with international experts to finalize the list of functioning areas. The qualitative methodology, specifically focus groups with patients and families, played a major role in contributing to the final list. The experience of the experts' conference underscores the importance of a consensus process in capturing cultural differences.
