Summary: Oryza longistaminata, a perennial wild species in Africa, shows significant differences in chlorophyll biosynthesis and related gene expression. The F1 generation exhibits long awn, increased chloroplasts, and higher chlorophyll content. Some genes in the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway are expressed at higher levels in the F1 generation compared to O. sativa and O. longistaminata.

Summary: This study identified a drought-insensitive rice mutant through screening, which exhibited reduced water loss and leaf curling under drought stress, indicating good drought tolerance. The mutant also accumulated more cuticular wax on the surface, potentially contributing to enhanced drought resistance in rice.

Summary: High temperature is a critical factor affecting rice growth, development, and yield. This study evaluated the heat tolerances of two rice varieties and found differences in their response to heat stress. Analysis of H2O2 and proline content revealed different oxidative and stress responses in the two varieties. Transcriptome analysis identified several pathways involved in heat response, with protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum playing a key role. Additionally, 22 key genes were identified through protein-protein interaction analysis. This study enhances our understanding of thermotolerance mechanisms in rice and provides a foundation for breeding thermotolerant cultivars through molecular breeding.

Summary: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant mRNA modification in eukaryotes, playing a crucial role in posttranscriptional gene regulation. In this study, we identified YTH03, YTH05, and YTH10 as m6A reader proteins in rice, and showed that they redundantly regulate plant height through the hormonal pathway. Knockout of these YTH proteins resulted in reduced plant height, with simultaneous knockout causing a severe dwarf phenotype. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the reduced plant height may be attributed to the blocked synthesis of diterpenoids and brassinolide.

Summary: This study investigates the in vitro biochemical activities of Oryza sativa MRE11. The N-terminal region of OsMre11 was cloned and purified, showing binding activity with dsDNA, ssDNA, and G-quadruplex DNA, as well as exonuclease and endonuclease activities in the presence of certain ions. OsMre11 exhibits properties similar to its counterparts in yeast and humans, suggesting its potential important role in cellular response to DNA damage in plants, especially rice.

Summary: The rice protein OsWRKY6 plays an important role in defense against the pathogen Xoo by directly activating the expression of OsWRKY45 and OsWRKY47, as well as activating OsPR1a and OsPR1b through these two OsWRKYs. This study reveals a novel downstream transcriptional pathway involved in defense against Xoo.

Summary: The glycine-rich RNA-binding protein SlRBP1 regulates the translation of key transcripts associated with chloroplast function, maintaining chloroplast functions. Knockdown mutants of SlRBP1 showed reduced chlorophyll accumulation and impaired chloroplast ultrastructure, accompanied by deregulation of key transcripts. SlRBP1 interacts with SleIF4A2 and promotes the translation of its target RNAs, thereby regulating chloroplast functions.

Summary: Differential gene expression analysis was used to identify key genes and functional mechanisms related to aluminum tolerance in rice. The study revealed the transcriptional responses of different rice genotypes to aluminum exposure and identified a core set of mechanisms triggered by aluminum. These findings provide insights into the understanding of rice's response to aluminum stress.

Summary: In this study, a class of FYVE domain-containing proteins was systematically investigated, and one secreted protein, PsFYVE1, was found to promote Phytophthora infection in both tobacco and soybean. It was also discovered that PsFYVE1 and NbRZ-1A co-regulated pre-mRNA alternative splicing and transcription levels of plant immunity-related genes, promoting disease development.

Summary: CRL1 is a key regulator in rice crown root initiation, and it can bind multiple DNA sequences to activate target genes. Targeted mutation of CRL1-regulated genes using CRISPR/Cas9 reveals their role in promoting crown root development. Additionally, OsbHLH044 represses a regulatory module to modulate specific processes during crown root formation regulated by CRL1.

Summary: Lipids play diverse biological functions, including signal transduction, cellular membrane biogenesis, and carbon storage. Fatty acids are synthesized in the plastids and then transported to the endoplasmic reticulum for further acylation to form triacylglycerols or incorporation into phosphatidylcholine. Acyl-CoA-binding proteins (ACBPs) play a crucial role in lipid transfer and maintaining intracellular acyl-CoA pools, while other proteins such as lipid transfer proteins and annexins are also important in lipid binding.

Summary: The present study utilized the known functions of rice SPL genes to study the functional genomics of TaSPL genes in wheat. Through various methods, the orthologous relationships between TaSPL and OsSPL genes were established, highlighting the conservation and divergence in SPL functions. TaSPL genes responsive to different abiotic stresses were identified, and ectopic expression of TaSPL3 in rice had significant effects on heading dates, leaf and stem development, and yield.

Summary: Being a salt-sensitive crop, rice growth, development and productivity are severely affected by saline soil. The study found that rice lines with up-regulated expression of OsNHX1 and OsSOS1 under salt stress showed better salt tolerance, while those with low expression levels of OsHKT1;5 and OsHKT2;1 were more susceptible to salt stress.
