Summary: The prevalence of autoimmunity, measured by antinuclear antibodies (ANA), is increasing in U.S. adolescents. Improved hygiene and cleaner environments in childhood may result in improper immune responses in later life. This study explores the associations between indicators of hygiene hypothesis (such as asthma, allergies, and antibodies to infectious agents) and ANA prevalence in adolescents. The findings suggest that ANA may be a useful indicator of inadequate immune education in adolescence.

Summary: This population-based cohort study found that the prevalence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) tested at a single time point was 14.5%, with approximately one-third at a moderate or high titer. The IgA isotypes of anticardiolipin and anti-beta-2 glycoprotein I were associated with future atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events.

Summary: The most common ANA screening dilution for investigating JIA was found to be 1:80, showing moderate sensitivity and specificity in predicting the risk of JIA-related uveitis. Further studies are needed to address the heterogeneity and deficiencies in the current literature related to ANA screening dilutions in JIA and its associated uveitis.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and associated factors of insomnia symptoms among residents of Mettu town during the pandemic lockdown. The study found a high prevalence of insomnia symptoms among residents of Mettu town. Being female, being aged between 19 and 40, being aged above 41, smoking, having a higher satisfaction with the available information, fear of COVID-19, feelings of alienation from others, somatic symptoms, depressive symptoms, and psychological distress were all significantly associated with insomnia symptoms. Therefore, interventions should be implemented to promote healthy sleep among residents of Mettu town.

Summary: A study in Jordan found that the overall annual period prevalence of dementia in people over 50 years old was 1.29%, lower than the global average due to the relatively younger Jordanian population. Multivariate analysis identified older age, male gender, family history of dementia, and illiteracy as significant risk factors for dementia. The results provide valuable baseline information for policymakers to plan for the healthcare needs of dementia patients in Jordan.

Summary: The prevalence of antinuclear autoantibody (ANA) in the Polish adult population depends on age, sex, and the cutoff threshold used for detection. Women and elderly individuals are more likely to have ANA, and setting the 1:160 cutoff threshold could reduce the number of positive results released in Polish laboratories.

Summary: A study conducted in a rural town in Shandong province revealed a relatively high prevalence of T2DM among residents over 60 years old, with higher rates in females than males. The control rate of diabetes was suboptimal, especially in terms of exercise and behavior modification. Further optimization of measures, particularly in the use of anti-diabetic drugs, is needed to achieve ideal effects.

Summary: The prevalence of anti-DFS70 autoantibodies in healthy individuals and patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases in Japan is similar, but higher than in other Asian regions. The presence of anti-DFS70 antibodies complicates the differential diagnosis of autoimmune rheumatic diseases through antinuclear antibody screening.

Summary: Current research on trafficking in persons (TIP) often lacks a standardized operational definition. This study applied the Prevalence Reduction Innovation Forum (PRIF) statistical definitions to assess TIP prevalence in Cape Town, South Africa. The study found that the PRIF algorithm yielded higher prevalence estimates compared to previous reports, and the TIP screeners showed promising predictive utility for the statistical definitions. The findings suggest the potential for wider applications in global and regional TIP research and policymaking.

Summary: Recent studies have found high levels of anti-dense fine speckled 70 (DFS70) autoantibodies in individuals with inflammatory conditions, but the clinical significance remains unclear. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of anti-DFS70 autoantibodies, identify factors associated with their presence, and assess time trends. The results showed that the prevalence of anti-DFS70 antibodies increased over time in the US population, and there were differences based on gender, race, and smoking status.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and its relationship with treatment and clinical outcomes. The results showed a higher prevalence of detectable ANA in IBD patients compared to the healthy population, particularly in those receiving biological therapy. The presence of ANA was lower when immunomodulators were combined with this therapy. A considerable proportion of patients experienced ANA seroconversion after the initiation of biological treatment, but the risk of lupus-like syndrome (LLS) appeared to be marginal.
