Summary: Lipoic acid, a popular antioxidant and insulin-mimetic supplement, was found to cause high-grade proteinuria in multiple sclerosis patients in a clinical trial. This led to the discovery of NELL1-associated membranous nephropathy cases related to lipoic acid supplementation, which improved with discontinuation of the supplement and supportive therapy.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed data from 13 patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (iMN) who received rituximab (RTX) treatment. The results showed that a majority of the patients achieved complete or partial remission after a median follow-up of 22 months. In the responder group, there were improvements in renal function and serum albumin levels. No adverse events were reported during the treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the clinical and pathological features of patients with HBV-associated membranous nephropathy and idiopathic membranous nephropathy complicated with HBV infection. The study found no significant differences in most parameters between the two groups, but the HBV-MN group had lower levels of serum C3 and C4 compared to the IMN group.

Summary: Proteinuria in ANCA GN is correlated with distinct clinicopathological characteristics, such as MPO subtype, MPA diagnosis, and severe kidney function deterioration. The presence of proteinuria is most prominent in ANCA GN with sclerotic class and high ANCA renal risk score, indicating specific renal involvement rather than systemic disease activity.

Summary: This study found a clear association between baseline anti-PLA2R1 antibody titer and severity of nephrotic syndrome in membranous nephropathy patients, but this association was no longer significant when considering proteinuria and serum creatinine in the analysis. The relevance of a single measurement of anti-PLA2R1 antibodies at baseline as a prognostic biomarker in membranous nephropathy is questioned, suggesting the need for future studies on sequential measurements for disease progression prediction.

Summary: Membranous nephropathy is a glomerulopathy that leads to nephrotic syndrome and end-stage kidney disease, with recent scientific advancements opening up new possibilities for diagnosis and personalized treatment. By utilizing serological/immunological methods, genomic and proteomic studies, there is potential for a more individualized approach to treating membranous nephropathy.

Summary: This study identified circulating extracellular vesicle (EV) microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) and their association with therapeutic response. The results suggest that these EV-miRNAs have potential as markers for the diagnosis and prediction of treatment response in patients with IMN.

Summary: Membranous nephropathy (MN) is a glomerular disease that can occur at any age, with about 80% of adult patients having no apparent cause. It is an autoimmune disease with unpredictable disease outcome, with some patients experiencing spontaneous remission. Various treatment options are available, but relapses and suboptimal treatment responses remain a challenge.

Summary: This study suggests that hydroxychloroquine as an adjunctive treatment in patients with primary membranous nephropathy can effectively reduce proteinuria and have a positive impact on antibody reduction. In the long term, the hydroxychloroquine group showed a higher clinical remission rate, and no serious adverse events were observed.

Summary: Membranous nephropathy (MN) is a common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults, with Idiopathic MN (IMN) being one of its forms and usually having an unknown etiology. IMN is described as an autoimmune disease, and while the exact mechanisms of its occurrence and development are still unclear, the discovery of the M-type phospholipase A(2) receptor (PLA(2)R) has greatly advanced our understanding of IMN. Recent research on target antigens associated with IMN has made considerable progress, providing scientific insight and innovative ideas for future studies.

Summary: Computational pathology research driven by deep learning faces challenges in reproducibility and reusability. Codebase with good documentation and robustness and generalizability of models are crucial. The reuse of computational pathology algorithms is limited, and their application in clinical settings is even rarer. The study found that features such as low placental weight, accelerated villous maturation, decidual arteriopathy, and infarcts are associated with adverse obstetrical outcomes, while the role of other features like distal villous hypoplasia, excess multinucleated trophoblast, and retroplacental hemorrhage needs further research.
