Summary: This study aimed to investigate the expression of tight junction protein claudins (CLDNs) in pulmonary salivary gland tumors. The results showed that CLDNs were overexpressed in both adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs) and mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs), especially in CLDN2, CLDN7, and CLDN18. Different patterns of CLDN expression were found between ACC and MEC tumors, and positive correlations between certain CLDNs were observed. The study suggests that overexpression of specific CLDNs may be a potential target for anti-claudin therapy in these rare histological subtypes of lung cancer.

Summary: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare cancer with no standard chemotherapy currently available. Response rates to cytotoxic agents are around 10%, while combination therapies like CAP and cisplatin-vinorelbine have response rates of 18-31%. Inhibitors targeting VEGFR show relatively high response rates of 11-17%. Targeting cancer stem cells (CSC), drivers of chemoresistance and recurrence, could lead to valuable therapies for ACC.

Summary: In this study on adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), the expression of MMP-9 in pseudocysts and peritumoural inflammatory cells was found to be associated with better survival and fewer treatment failures. High tumoural MMP-7 and-25 were linked to better survival, while high tumoural MMP-15 was associated with poorer survival and high tumoural MMP-9 with advanced stage and regional recurrences. Tumour cells did not show MMP-8 immunopositivity. These results suggest potential roles for MMPs in ACC carcinogenesis and prognosis.

Summary: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant lesion that can occur in various anatomical sites. ACC in salivary and lacrimal glands has a high risk of invasion and metastasis, while ACC in the breast is rarer and less aggressive. Perineural invasion is a major predictor of mortality in ACC, and the prognosis differs between different anatomical sites. The genetic variations and prognostic differences of ACC are still not well understood, but there are available treatments and emerging strategies being developed.

Summary: This study investigates the expression of VEGF-A in salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues and explores its relationship with the occurrence, development, and metastasis of the tumor. The results show that VEGF-A is highly expressed in this type of cancer and its expression level is closely associated with the pathological grade, lymph node metastasis, and clinical stage of the tumor. VEGF-A can be used as an important indicator for judging the biological behavior of salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Summary: This systematic review explores the potential role of PSMA PET imaging and therapy as a theranostic tool for adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and other salivary gland cancers (SGCs). Despite a limited number of studies, PSMA PET shows promising prospects in detecting lesions in ACC and SGC that are not detected on standard imaging. Further research is needed to guide its real-world use.

Summary: Lower T or N classification and highly differentiated disease were associated with a significantly lower risk of lung metastases in patients with major salivary gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MaSG-MEC). Elderly Caucasian male patients with poorly differentiated disease, multiple sites of metastases and no surgical therapy to primary tumor were more likely to reduce life expectancy.

Summary: Computational pathology research driven by deep learning faces challenges in reproducibility and reusability. Codebase with good documentation and robustness and generalizability of models are crucial. The reuse of computational pathology algorithms is limited, and their application in clinical settings is even rarer. Summary: The Amsterdam Consensus Statement introduced the term maternal vascular malperfusion (MVM) to classify a group of findings related to impaired maternal-placental circulation. The study found that features such as low placental weight, accelerated villous maturation, decidual arteriopathy, and infarcts are associated with adverse obstetrical outcomes, while the role of other features like distal villous hypoplasia, excess multinucleated trophoblast, and retroplacental hemorrhage needs further research.
