Summary: Understanding the equilibrium relationships between minerals is crucial for quantifying metamorphic conditions in crustal rocks. However, there is currently no robust modelling strategy available for unambiguously recognizing mineral growth under different conditions. This study proposes a general strategy for assessing the stable coexistence of minerals and tracing partial equilibrium relationships preserved in metapelites to reconstruct their P-T evolutions. Through iterative thermodynamic models, a detailed P-T path of a metapelite from the Western Central Alps was revealed, showing multiple equilibration stages and partial re-equilibration during subsequent metamorphic stages.

Summary: Variations of rare earth element concentrations in metamorphic garnet provide important information about geodynamic and geochemical processes in the deeper Earth. By utilizing high-resolution trace element and mu-Raman mapping, combined with thermodynamic-geochemical-diffusion models, it is possible to distinguish and quantify the thermodynamic equilibrium and kinetic contributions of REE uptake in garnet. The presence of heavy rare earth element zoning, as well as the concentric patterns of minor recurring fluctuations in the REE concentrations, suggest recurring changes in rock permeabilities due to pulsed fluid fluxes during metamorphism.

Summary: This study explores metamorphic conditions using experimental simulations on blueschists with and without garnet, revealing that the absence of garnet is predominantly caused by the mixing of calcite. The results suggest that the peak condition of garnet-bearing blueschists is around 1.9 GPa and 530 degrees C, while for garnet-absent blueschists, it is constrained at 2.3 GPa and 500-600 degrees C. These findings highlight the complex interaction between basaltic crust and carbonate-bearing sediments in the subduction zone.

Summary: Metamorphic pressure and temperature (P-T) paths in late-Archean high-grade rocks of the eastern Beartooth Mountains of Montana (USA) were established using various methods including thermobarometry, imaging, modeling, and thermodynamic modeling. The results indicate the prograde entrapment P-T conditions and the range of peak metamorphic conditions. Quartz inclusion and Ti-in-quartz thermobarometry were combined to establish unique prograde inclusion entrapment conditions. The study also suggests that the quartz inclusions used to calculate entrapment P-T largely preserve their initial conditions and the majority of garnet growth occurred at similar temperatures.

Summary: The new Micro-Fabric Analyzer (MFA) utilizes X-ray and optical image features for quantitative extrapolation of rock microstructural features, allowing for more comprehensive analysis compared to traditional edge mineral grain detectors. The MFA toolbox enables low-cost and user-friendly quantification of mineral types, integrated with micro-X-ray maps for extrapolating elemental distribution maps.

Summary: The Rocca Canavese Thrust Sheets Unit (RCTU) is a subduction-related melange situated between Alpine subduction complex and Southalpine domain. It is characterized by mylonitic to ultra-mylonitic zone in the tectonic contact area, with pre-mylonitic parageneses preserved in some rocks. The coupling of RCTU, EMC, and LM occurred during the Alpine evolution, showing three deformation and metamorphic stages.

Summary: By utilizing the Quantitative X-ray Maps Analyzer (Q-XRMA), this study investigated three samples of meta-acidic rocks with pre-Alpine metamorphic relicts from the Sesia-Lanzo Zone, aiming to analyze reacting zones between pre-Alpine and Alpine mineral phases. The quantitative data treatment of X-ray images allowed for the isolation and quantitative investigation of local paragenetic equilibria, providing insights into the pre-Alpine metamorphic scenario and the influence of pre-Alpine metamorphic inheritance on Alpine tectonic evolution.

Summary: The Serre Batholith in Central Calabria represents the intermediate portion of late Variscan continental crust, with upper levels composed of two-mica granodiorites and granites, and lower levels of weakly peraluminous granodiorites. The granitoid rocks in the batholith exhibit deformation microstructures due to tectonic stresses, with a magnetic foliation showing a shortening axis oriented NW-SE. Ongoing studies aim to further investigate the relationship between regional tectonic structures and the emplacement of the late-Variscan Serre Batholith granitoids.
