Summary: This paper constructs return connectedness indices and net pairwise directional connectedness indices to investigate their ability to forecast natural gas returns. The results show that these indices have significant predictive power for natural gas returns, with the indices from the WTI crude oil market performing the best.

Summary: Pmsa calculated by a computer algorithm shows high agreement with Pms-Insp derived from inspiratory holds in cardiac surgery patients, demonstrating interchangeability. Pmsa is a straightforward, non-interventional, continuous bedside option compared to the interventional and offline nature of Pms-Insp. Further studies are needed to determine the role of Pmsa in circulatory management of critically ill patients.

Summary: There has been a growing interest in dietary supplements in the past two decades. Despite being one of the less-studied substances released for public consumption, advanced techniques such as genomics have made it possible to assess the impact of these supplements on human transcriptome or proteome. This review introduces the main domains of genomics and focuses on three widely used techniques: NGS, LC-MS, NMR, and their applications in studying dietary supplements.

Summary: Riparian lowlands play a crucial role in protecting contaminated aquatic ecosystems by attenuating and reducing nutrient-rich water. The hydrological conditions within these lowlands can affect their reduction capabilities, depending on the dominant flow pathways. Understanding the flow pathways is essential for assessing catchment-scale processes. This study aims to establish a relationship between the dominant riparian flow pathways and lowland features. A downscaled high-resolution numerical model was used to provide quantitative information on riparian flow partitioning. This approach can enhance nitrate management tools by incorporating variability in lowland nitrate reduction capacity.

Summary: Many retailers offer customers the option to buy online and return to store (BORS), allowing for product return flexibility. The impact of BORS on store operations, inventory decisions, and profits is examined in this study. Findings suggest that BORS attracts new customers and leads to channel shifting among existing customers, while also allowing the retailer to stock less in-store inventory. However, the profitability of offering BORS depends on the return penalty, return rate, and the category of products.

Summary: The level of combat training of future commanders is crucial for national defense. This study found that the practical military performance of cadets is closely related to their strength and endurance levels, while physical fitness does not significantly affect shooting accuracy. The level of alternating attention was identified as a key determinant of shooting accuracy.

Summary: Urban residential districts (URDs) are a crucial element in urban planning, particularly in the context of COVID-19 prevention. This study utilizes high-resolution remote sensing images to map and evaluate the ventilation capacity of URDs in a typical city in northern China. The results highlight that well-designed URDs have almost double the ventilation capacity compared to poorly designed ones, and there is significant variation in ventilation capacity within URDs. Therefore, high-resolution remote sensing data plays a vital role in precise urban planning.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of modality (online vs. face-to-face) on attentional performance using the Continuous Visual Attention Test (CVAT). The results showed that assessment modality did not influence attention performance, whether comparing between different individuals or within the same individual. The variable VRT was found to have high reliability.

Summary: Loneliness is a prevalent modern epidemic that negatively affects employed adults, leading to various health problems and decreased job performance. Workplace loneliness is also associated with higher turnover and absenteeism, causing significant productivity loss for employers. This article highlights the importance of understanding and managing workplace loneliness and provides evidence-based interventions to reduce it, including fostering relationship building, increasing support in evolving work contexts, and promoting a people-focused organizational culture. The information presented in this article aims to help leaders combat on-the-job loneliness, create healthier work environments, and improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

Summary: This study explores altruistic behavior in the Neotropical wasp and demonstrates that diminishing returns to cooperation can explain this behavior. As the worker-to-brood ratio increases in a worker's home colony, the predicted marginal benefit of a worker for expected colony productivity diminishes. Helping related colonies allows workers to focus on caring for those in greater need, facilitating cooperative drifting under conditions of local dispersal.

Summary: Individual investors play an important role in the capital market, and improving their financial welfare has always been a long-standing goal for policymakers and researchers. Using data from a national survey on individual investor behavior in China, we examine the relationship between individual investors’ financial education and the performance of their stock portfolios. The results suggest that individual investors who receive financial education are more likely to increase their profits in the stock market due to their good investment habits and higher risk tolerance. Additionally, financial education has a stronger impact on stock market profit making for less experienced investors and those from regions with lower levels of investor protection.
