Summary: The study suggests that the American Dental Association's caries risk assessment tool is better at identifying patients at low risk of requiring future caries-related treatment than those at higher risk. Current treated caries have a stronger association with future caries-related treatment than the subjective CRA determination.

Summary: The study found that both full and reduced Cariogram models have reliable predictive performance for individual caries increment, with the reduced model showing better predictive performance and less burden to individuals. However, due to insufficient research on other CRA models, conclusions about their performance remain uncertain.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of dentists in China regarding caries risk assessment (CRA). The results showed that CRA is not widely used in clinical practice in China and the level of knowledge related to CRA among dentists is generally suboptimal.

Summary: The prevalence of cavitation in proximal carious lesions was estimated based on direct clinical assessment of previously detected radiographic lesions. Most D1 and D2 lesions were not cavitated, challenging conventional wisdom. Combining detection methods seems desirable to increase accuracy in assessing approximal posterior lesions. The low proportion of cavitated lesions reinforces the idea of cautiously indicating invasive approaches for managing proximal carious lesions.

Summary: The study aims to determine the efficacy of a bioactive caries detecting dye (BCD) for the diagnosing and mechanical removal of occlusal and proximal dental caries. The results show that BCD can help identify dental caries clinically, radiographically, and effectively remove denatured teeth with less pain or sensitivity.

Summary: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of different caries risk assessment methods on caries control in children aged 8 to 11 years. Two groups will be tested on an individualized multivariate method and a simplified method based on caries experience, with outcomes evaluated at 12 and 24 months. This randomized clinical trial will determine whether a detailed, multivariate approach or a simpler caries risk assessment strategy is more beneficial for the patient.

Summary: This article focuses on the etiology of dental caries and the importance of evaluating risk factors. It emphasizes the impact of poor oral hygiene, bad eating habits, and alterations in oral bacterial flora on caries development. It suggests the use of various products and a communicative approach in the clinical approach to prevent and treat dental caries.

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness of the toothpaste technique in preventing caries in home care was investigated. By diluting toothpaste samples and measuring viscosity, it was found that at low concentrations, toothpaste can be easily washed out of high-risk interdental areas, resulting in reduced caries prevention. The study proposed a method to maintain toothpaste in the interdental area and showed that using finger brushes can increase the efficiency of toothpaste delivery.

Summary: The study assessed dental treatment needs and risk factors for children with disabilities in Taiwan, finding that a majority required restorative dental treatment due to dental caries. Most children had multiple teeth and surfaces requiring treatment, with significant risk factors including parents with lower socioeconomic status and poor oral health habits. Addressing these factors through dental treatment, hygiene education, and dietary modifications is essential for reducing dental caries in children with disabilities.

Summary: This 2-year longitudinal study on 7- to 8-year-old children found that caries incidence according to the CAST index was associated with socio-economic status and mother education, but not associated with having 2 or more sugary snacks per day and oral hygiene status.

Summary: In Sichuan Province, China, pediatric primary care physicians commonly perform dental screening, but conduct fewer CRAs and dental referrals for high caries-risk children. Factors influencing physicians' CRA and dental referral activities include encountering more caries patients, receiving dental knowledge training, and having confidence in their dental knowledge.

Summary: Popularizing community and home early caries screening is crucial, but a low-cost and portable automated screening tool is currently lacking. This study developed an automated diagnosis model for dental caries and calculus using fluorescence sub-band imaging and deep learning. The method consists of two stages, collecting imaging information and employing a convolutional neural network for classification and diagnosis. The results show competitive performance and the potential for application in community and at-home caries detection.

Summary: This cross-sectional study assessed the implementation of documenting a baseline caries risk assessment (CRA) of patients seen by predoctoral dental students and its association with the presence of caries risk management (CRM) treatment. There is evidence that students were mostly compliant with completing a CRA for most patients; however, there is a deficiency in implementation of CRM approach to help support dental caries management, and there is still much room for improvement.
