In this article, a dumbbell-shaped dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) fed by coaxial probe is proposed for wideband applications. The proposed dumbbell-shaped DRA can be achieved by three-layer structure of same material where the radius of middle cylinder is smaller than the top and bottom disc. In dumbbell-shaped DRA, the effective permittivity varies in both axial and radial direction. A complex hybrid mode similar to HE11 delta mode is excited through a coaxial probe. The proposed dumbbell-shaped DRA provides the measured impedance bandwidth of 57.59% (at resonance frequency of 4.48 GHz) from 4.11 to 6.69 GHz for input reflection coefficient (S-11) less than -10 dB. The simulated and measured radiation patterns are consistent throughout the operational bandwidth. The average measured gain of proposed antenna is 4.88 dB in the frequency range of 4.11-6.69 GHz. A frequency-selective rasorber with wideband absorption and in-band transmission using resistive ink

Megh Sainadh Patinavalasa, Laxmi Banoth, Aditi Sharma, Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, Saptarshi Ghosh

Summary: This letter presents and investigates a polarization-insensitive frequency-selective absorber (FSR) with wideband absorption and in-band transmission characteristics. The proposed FSR consists of one lossy and one lossless resonator, both printed on FR4 substrates and separated by an air spacer. Resistive ink patterns are deposited in the top lossy layer to achieve wideband absorption, improving upon existing FSR structures. The absorptions are observed in the frequency ranges of 1.31-3.22 GHz and 4.88-6.69 GHz, with fractional bandwidths of 84.32% and 31.28% respectively. The bottom lossless layer enables in-band transmission response at 4.05 GHz between the two absorption bands with minimal insertion loss. The proposed FSR is polarization-insensitive and angularly stable, and its design has been validated through fabrication and measurement.

Analytical analysis of inhomogeneous and anisotropic metamaterial cylindrical waveguides using transformation matrix method

Abhinav Bhardwaj, Dheeraj Pratap, Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, S. Anantha Ramakrishna

Summary: This article demonstrates the applications and analytical solutions of a cylindrical waveguide filled with inhomogeneous materials. By using the geometric transformation method, different sets of material parameters were obtained. The results show that the analytical and numerical solutions are in good agreement in terms of modal field distributions, cutoff frequencies, and effective mode indices. Additionally, the inhomogeneity can be utilized to reduce the radial dimensions of the waveguide, making it highly desirable for various applications such as sensing, near-field coupling, and MRI.

Summary: In this study, a scheme for distant line-of-sight detection of low-observable targets by solely relying on their nontrivial phase characteristics is proposed, validated, and demonstrated. The presence of a spectral inflection point in the phase response function is identified as the signature of interest, and an algorithm is developed to ascertain the change of curvature information owing to resonant absorption.

A Time-Modulated Polarization-Rotating Frequency-Selective Surface

Mondeep Saikia, Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava

Summary: This article introduces a method that utilizes the modulation of the transmission or reflection coefficient of a frequency-selective surface (FSS) to modulate electromagnetic (EM) waves, and achieves polarization manipulation which rotates the polarization of the wave upon reflection. These techniques can be used as countermeasures to Radar detection. A prototype of a switchable polarization-rotating FSS is designed, which can switch between co-polarized and cross-polarized reflection, and an EM wave modulation scheme is planned using a periodic signal to switch the polarization state of the FSS. The prototype's response was measured through experiments.

Isolation Enhancement of Metamaterial-Inspired Two-Port MIMO Antenna Using Hybrid Techniques

Mohammad Ameen, Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary

Summary: This paper designs a highly isolated two-port MIMO antenna using hybrid isolation enhancement techniques. First, an epsilon-negative transmission line-inspired antenna with circular polarization (CP) radiation is developed. Then, the same antenna is converted into a two-element MIMO configuration. By inserting multiple defected ground structure-based slots in the antenna ground plane and placing an epsilon-and-mu-near-zero-based metasurface superstrate above the two-port MIMO configuration, higher antenna isolation of 51 dB is achieved. The antenna's performance is analyzed in an actual environmental condition by covering it with a Teflon cavity, and the polarization diversity performance is confirmed.

Summary: This work presents the design and development of a dual-band and dual-polarized epsilon-negative transmission line-inspired antenna for wireless applications. The antenna achieves miniaturization through the implementation of curved meander lines and bandwidth enhancement through the loading of complementary split-ring resonator-based mushroom resonator. Circular polarization radiation is achieved through the loading of two-arm Archimedean spiral resonators. The proposed antenna is suitable for ISM 2.4 GHz, WLAN/WiFi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, and LTE 2500 applications.

Summary: Designing and deploying a broadband microwave absorber that provides wide bandwidth RCS reduction for planar and curved surfaces is challenging. We present a resistive ink-based multilayered wideband absorber using a low-priced FR4 substrate to cope with the challenge. The structure achieves a reflection coefficient response below -10 dB over the frequency span of 1.3-18.6 GHz for normally incident electromagnetic waves, and exhibits novelty in terms of wider stealth and electromagnetic compatibility applications.

A Frequency Tunable Dielectric Resonator Antenna with Reduction of Cross Polarisation for Wi-MAX and Sub-6 Gilz 5G Applications

Rajkishor Kumar, Avinash Chandra, Naveen Mishra, Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary

Summary: This article investigates a frequency tunable linearly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) coupled with a horizontal/vertical-slot and excited with circular-ring type feed. The frequency tunability is achieved by rotating the slot at different angles. Two linearly polarized antennas, named DRA-1 and DRA-2, have been proposed for Wi-MAX and Sub-6 GHz/5G frequency bands, respectively. Both DRAs excite the TE11 and delta modes, confirmed by the orientation of the electric field inside the rectangular DRA. DRA-1 offers a measured-10 dB input impedance bandwidth of 21.60% centered at 2.87 GHz, with co-polarized and cross-polarized field levels separated by more than 24 dB in the broadside direction. DRA-2 offers a measured-10 dB input impedance bandwidth of 23.03% centered at 3.56 GHz, with co-polarized and cross-polarized field levels separated by more than 23 dB in the broadside direction. Additionally, DRA-1 has a maximum gain of 5.23 dBi, while DRA-2 has a maximum gain of 4.75 dBi in the broadside direction.
