Several bimetallic Pt/Zn,Na-MCM-22 catalysts were tested for the non-oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. Since acid-catalyzed side reactions in the large cavities of the MCM-22 catalysts play an important role here, several methods for decreasing the concentration of acid sites were tried. The most successful technique was the reduction of the metals with aqueous sodium borohydride solution instead of hydrogen, which led to a significantly increased yield of propene.
