Benzene bridged PMOs show only little applicability towards catalysis, sorption, scavenging, etc. Nevertheless organic synthesis supplies a wide range of possible modification reactions on aromatic groups. One of these is brominating benzene bridged PMOs, hereby following the successful approach of the as-synthesized UKON materials of brominated benzene bridged PMOs. In this study however, for the first time different post-modification reactions were examined for brominating the benzene rings. The synthesized materials were thoroughly tested and evaluated accordingly and specifically emphasis was put on occurring structural changes. The results show that the principles of organic chemistry are not so straightforwardly transferred to nanoporous material science. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
