Summary: Amide bonds are commonly constructed through lactone aminolysis, and this study presents 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) as an effective catalyst for this reaction under mild conditions. The methodology is compatible with a wide range of lactones and amines (>50 examples), including natural products and pharmaceuticals, and it is applicable to the synthesis of bioactive molecules. Mechanistic studies reveal the involvement of acyl-TBD as the reactive intermediate in this reaction.

Summary: This manuscript describes a convenient, mild, and highly stereoselective method for the allylation of delta-hydroxy-alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones using allyltrimethylsilane mediated by BF3 center dot OEt2, resulting in 2,4-diallyl-2-methyl-6-aryltetrahydro-2H-pyran ring systems with quaternary carbon stereogenic centers. The isolation of TMS-protected lactol as an intermediate strongly supports the proposed mechanistic pathway.

Summary: This study investigates the exchange of water and carbon between the mantle and core, and finds that water can extract carbon from the core in the form of diamond, while the core gains hydrogen. This suggests a link between Earth's deep water and carbon cycles, and extracted core carbon can explain a portion of mantle carbon.

Summary: The through-space H-1 NMR effect of steric compression by the lone-pair electrons of O- and N-atoms leads to a significant increase in the chemical shift of the compressed proton. The intensity of this deshielding effect is related to the proximity and overlap of the lone-pair or compressing atom. Steric compression decreases when the lone-pair electrons of the heteroatom and the compressed proton are not directly overlapped.

Summary: Gulf Stream Warm Core Rings (WCRs) play a significant role in the New England Shelf and marine ecosystems. The study utilizes a 10-year WCR dataset to track the rings' movement and characteristics. The dataset reveals a specific path along which the rings travel, with a speed of 5.9 cm/s. Long-lived rings are found west of the New England Seamount Chain, while short-lived rings are more widely distributed. The analysis of WCR vertical structures suggests different formation processes for rings formed east and west of the seamount chain.

Summary: The study presents a novel method for the synthesis of monocyclic nine-membered N,O-heterocycles through a synergistic palladium/rhodium dual catalytic cycloaddition of vinylpropylene carbonates with N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles. Furthermore, the resulting oxazonines can be transformed into cis-fused [4.3.0] bicyclic compounds via a transannular Alder-ene rearrangement.

Summary: In this study, a series of hydroxyalkyltriazoles with a cyclooctane core were synthesized by reacting azidoalcohols or diazidodiols with phenylacetylene. It was found that one of the obtained compounds can act as an effective ligand for CuAAC reactions. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that this compound forms a complex with copper ions by coordinating only one N-atom of the triazole ring.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis and in situ formation of diblock copolymers of PPFPMA and PMPC were achieved using polymerization-induced self-assembly. The nanostructures formed were mostly spherical and their morphology depended on the solid concentration and the relative length of the two blocks. Post-polymerization modification was also explored to functionalize the nanostructures, making them potentially useful as biocompatible and non-fouling nanocarriers and nanosensors.

Summary: Three half-sandwich organometallic ruthenium(II) complexes containing purine analogs have been synthesized and characterized. The most active complex, [(eta(6)-p-cym)Ru(HmtpO)Cl-2], showed high cytotoxicity against HeLa cells and lower toxicity to normal fibroblast cells. This complex also exhibited antimetastatic activity and high antiparasitic effect, making it a promising candidate for further research.

Summary: An apparent layout dependence for the total ionizing dose (TID) susceptibility in a commercial 12-nm FinFET technology has been discovered. The drain current scales with the width-to-length ratio before irradiation, but after exposure, the layout location becomes the dominant factor in TID response. TCAD simulations suggest that the sub-fin doping concentration can greatly impact the drain current after TID exposure, indicating the heavy dependence of the overall TID response on the doping level in the sub-fin region.

Summary: Chiral 2-trichloromethyloxazolines were synthesized from levoglucosenone and annulated to a carbohydrate fragment. The compounds were converted to 4-substituted 3-amino-1,6-anhydro-3-deoxy-beta-D-marmopyranoses by acid hydrolysis. Intramolecular amination of allyl trichloroacetimidates was used to construct the oxazoline ring. It was found that trichloroacetimidates with an epoxide ring undergo recyclization to form the oxazoline ring spontaneously.

Summary: Diels-Alder adducts of levoglucosenone with isoprene, butadiene and piperylene can smoothly react with acetaldehyde or benzaldehyde in the presence of AlCl3, resulting in the formation of products of the ene reaction, with the hydroxy group of the primary intermediates participating in the formation of semiketal moiety. The yields of the reaction products are influenced by both the Lewis acid used (AlCl3, BF3.Et2O, ZnBr2, SnCl(4) or EtAlCl2) and the nature of the substrate.

Summary: The influence of hydroxy, methyl, and benzyloxy groups in corresponding phenol derivatives on the Michael addition to levoglucosenone in the presence of AlCl3 or FeCl3 was investigated. The reaction between phenols containing hydroxyl and methyl groups in the ortho position with levoglucosenone results in spontaneous ketalization of the carbohydrate keto group. The obtained compounds show promise for studying their structure-activity relationship.

Summary: Polymers containing fragments of aniline and indole were synthesized by chemically modifying copolymers of ClPA with Ani of different composition. Their structures and compositions were determined using IR, NMR, UV-spectroscopy, and elemental analysis methods. Morphology, electrochemical characteristics, photoluminescence, thermal stability, and photoconductive properties were evaluated. The modified polymers showed improved thermal stability and the structural changes were observed by electron microscopy. The increase in the photoconductivity of polymer films with a larger number of indole-containing units indicates their potential use in modern electronics.

Summary: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a commonly used organic solvent in many organic reactions, and it has been found that the DMSO/SOCl2 system is efficient for the intramolecular cyclization of 2-alkenylanilines. The interaction between N-tosyl derivatives and thionyl chloride in the DMSO/SOCl2 system was studied, and the structure of the obtained products was found to depend on the structure of the alkenyl fragment and the reaction conditions. The new compounds were confirmed by IR, heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy, and high resolution mass spectrometry.
