Summary: The encoding of sensory information in the mouse brain is less optimal when mice make correct decisions compared to when they make incorrect ones. However, these suboptimal encoding structures facilitate information flow between different brain regions, ultimately enhancing the ability of these regions to collaborate in decision-making.

Summary: This study explored a medical student volunteering program during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that student participants were primarily motivated by altruism and experienced transformational changes in their professional identity through workplace-based learning. They reported increased wellbeing and self-esteem by feeling valued and contributing to service provision. The study also found that a personalized induction, active supervision, earlier stage of training, and male gender were associated with higher overall satisfaction.

Summary: Value-added student roles, which aim to simultaneously teach students professionalism and improve healthcare systems, have become increasingly popular. While evaluating the impact of these roles can be challenging, student participation in quality improvement projects can lead to internal improvements in hospital safety management and broader institutional system changes.

Summary: Good listening is essential for sustainable social relationships. Through the construction of a belief system about good listening, this study identified three factors related to the cognitive, trust, and behavioral aspects of listening. The simplified scale developed from these factors predicted the partner's listening experience and demonstrated incremental validity in predicting relationship sustainability.

Summary: Adhesion formation after gynecological surgery is still a challenge. Minimally invasive surgical approaches combined with meticulous microsurgical principles and the use of adhesion-reducing substances can reduce the risk of new adhesion formation but cannot eliminate it completely. Myomectomy is the most adhesiogenic procedure and postoperative adhesions can affect fertility. Therefore, the benefits versus risks should be considered when using surgery as infertility treatment. Factors such as the size and location of fibroids play a significant role in adhesion development and post-surgical infertility, highlighting the importance of effective strategies against adhesion formation in this setting. This review aims to evaluate the incidence and factors of adhesion formation and discuss the best available preventive measures.

Summary: Most PA clinicians and students are against requiring an entry-level PA doctoral degree, mainly due to concerns about potential harm; many believe it should be offered but not required, and a significant number think an entry-level doctoral degree would cause more harm than good. Factors such as race, educational attainment, occupation, and length of practice as a PA are significantly associated with perceptions of causing more harm. There is a strong positive association between the perception of a doctoral degree causing harm and expectations of negative impact on the availability of clinical training sites.

Summary: The CDK1 protein kinase plays a crucial role not only as a cell cycle regulator, but also in various other biological processes such as gene expression regulation and apoptosis. It is involved in many vital cellular events that are necessary for cell survival. Dysregulation of CDK1 expression and activation has been closely linked to cancer progression and drug resistance.

Summary: Surgery is a highly competitive specialty with a wide range of subspecialties. Medical students often lack exposure to surgical education and rotations in their curriculum, necessitating proactive engagement in activities related to surgical care. Understanding surgical practice, reflecting on personal suitability for a career in surgery, and participating in extracurricular activities are essential for developing an interest in surgery and gaining a competitive edge as a medical student.

Summary: Cells encounter various stresses that disrupt physiological processes, but they have adaptive and stress-response mechanisms to survive these challenges. One such mechanism is the heat shock response (HSR) program, controlled by the HSF family. HSF4, a member of this family, plays important roles in both physiological processes and disease pathogenesis.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of media features on decision biases in decision-support systems. The experiments reveal that combining interactivity and revisability may aggravate biases instead of reducing them. The study suggests that it is necessary to evaluate these features separately and further explore their effects on DSS.

Summary: Stimuli related to the self are preferred over stimuli related to others. This study explores self-relevance as a possible explanation for this effect. Through four experiments, it is found that brands paired with self-relevant adjectives are preferred and brands paired with self-irrelevant adjectives are less preferred. The results suggest that self-driven preferences are influenced by self-relevance.

Summary: This paper explores the impact of altruistic behaviors of a newsvendor in a two-echelon supply chain on the upstream manufacturer and the system performance. It finds that altruistic behavior of a risk-neutral or risk-seeking newsvendor benefits the manufacturer and the supply chain, while altruistic behavior of a risk-averse newsvendor harms them. The study also shows that the altruistic behavior of the manufacturer can increase the expected profit of the whole supply chain.
