Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted medical education globally, with lockdowns limiting clinical exposure for medical students. As a result, students are facing challenges in exploring various medical specialties and gaining clinical experience, particularly in regions like Europe and Ireland. Despite these challenges, medical students are still motivated to pursue their desired specialties, even with limited clinical contact opportunities.

Summary: Medical education research may be vulnerable to replication crisis due to various factors such as small sample sizes, conflicts of interest, and exploratory designs. Researchers can reduce risks and improve credibility by better planning, considering design choices, and using sensible data analysis. Collaboration among medical educators, evaluation of educational innovations, and raising the prestige of replication and collaborative research are essential for improving the quality of medical education and patient care.

Summary: Qualitative research assumes there is not one observable reality, and researchers build findings inductively from raw data to conceptual understanding. Theoretical frameworks guide qualitative analyses by suggesting concepts and relationships to explore, but may also stifle inductive reasoning. Rigorous data analysis and introspection can optimize the use of a theoretical framework.

Summary: In this study, a higher prevalence of hypertension and depression was found among medical students. There was an association between higher depression scores and higher diastolic blood pressure. These findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive screening for hypertension and depression among both patient groups.

Summary: Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of multiple solid malignancies, but their role in treating neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) remains uncertain. This article presents a study that combines the use of the programmed cell death (PD-1) inhibitor nivolumab with the alkylating agent temozolomide in advanced NEN patients.

Summary: Medical students graduate underprepared for postgraduate medical training despite years of classroom and clinical training. In this article, a medical student shares her personal perspectives on three factors contributing to this problem in undergraduate medical education: students' peripheral roles in the clinical environment impede learning, students receive inadequate feedback, and assessments do not measure desired learning outcomes. The authors propose using entrustable professional activities (EPAs) to address these issues, and explore how medical schools have begun implementing the EPA framework and potential future developments.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between medical students' intolerance of uncertainty and their attitudes towards people living with disabilities. The results showed that students with higher intolerance of uncertainty had more negative attitudes towards disabled patients. Further research is needed to develop better training methods to improve medical students' ability to care for patients with uncertain illness trajectories and disabilities.

Summary: Many medical students express interest in research, participate in research projects, and plan to pursue careers in research after graduation. However, there is a relatively low attitude towards research. Medical universities should consider adjusting their curricula to meet the needs of both groups and address the shortage of physicians in clinics and research.

Summary: In this study, the substitution of bismuth oxide content with gadolinium oxide in sodium borate glass was investigated. The density and molar volume of the glass samples showed an inverse trend. The optical band gap value and radiation shielding parameters were evaluated, and photoluminescence of gadolinium ions was also studied.

Summary: This study investigated the acceptance of online biochemistry laboratories among students at the Monastir Faculty of Dental Medicine. The results showed that students generally found the course presentations satisfactory, approved of interactions in virtual classrooms, and were satisfied with the availability of teachers. However, they were not fully prepared for online learning and preferred a combination of face-to-face and online learning after the pandemic.

Summary: Radiology education for medical students is becoming increasingly important due to its intersection with various medical specialties and its crucial role in patient care. However, there is variability in radiology education requirements among US medical schools, with only a minority mandating a radiology clerkship. The existing curriculum often focuses on anatomy courses or incorporates radiology into core clerkships, often taught by nonradiologists. It is essential for medical students to receive comprehensive imaging education, including interpretive and non-interpretive skills, appropriateness criteria for ordering exams, cost considerations, imaging safety, and understanding the role of radiologists as consultants.

Summary: Bone is a highly vascularized tissue, and the development, maturation, remodeling, and regeneration of bone depend on tight regulation of blood vessel supply. In bone tissue engineering, various vascularization strategies are being utilized, such as angiogenic growth factors, co-implantation of blood vessel forming cells, ex vivo microfabrication of blood vessels through bioprinting, and surgical methods for creating composite tissues that can be surgically transferred.

Summary: This study evaluated the printability and biocompatibility of a semi-synthetic hydrogel system (GelNB/GelS) for bioprinting of adipose-tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs). The results showed that GelNB/GelS hydrogels supported ASCs viability, proliferation and differentiation. The mechanical properties of GelNB/GelS system influenced the differentiation fate of ASCs. The hydrogel system may have potential applications in in vivo tissue engineering.
