By using the inverted torsion pendulum, investigations on the high temperature internal friction spectra of Al-Ce alloys with two different Ce contents were carried out and totally three peaks, the high temperature peak (P3), the intermediate temperature peak (P2) and the low temperature peak (PI), were observed when the samples were annealed from 623 to 873 K and aged at 623 K for 2-8 h. The dependences of P1, P2 and P3 on annealing temperature and aging time showed that PI was the so-called conventional grain boundary peak or Ke peak, P2 was the bamboo peak and P3 was the solid solution (SS) peak. The behaviors of these peaks in the two Al-Ce alloys indicated that the RE element played an important role in recrystallization of the Al-Ce alloys. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
