Summary: The microtexture evolution of AZ31 magnesium alloy plate edge samples was studied using EBSD, revealing that the generation of extension twins is influenced by varying deformation conditions. At room temperature, the edge samples exhibited significantly greater texture strength than the middle part, with the consumption of hard-oriented grains and weakening effect of the basal texture being proportional to the volume fraction of extension twins.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the initial texture of Mg alloy significantly affects the microstructure developed during cold rolling and the recrystallization behavior during subsequent annealing. The distribution of internal strain energy determines the formation structure of recrystallized grains, with ND samples mainly forming a bimodal grain structure along shear bands, while TD samples form a uniform equiaxed recrystallized grain structure.

Summary: The deformation behavior of a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy was studied during uniaxial compression at 21 K and 298 K using in-situ neutron diffraction. Decreasing the deformation temperature led to a slight increase in yield stress, but a remarkable enhancement in both the fracture stress and fracture strain. The low temperature sensitivity of the {10 (1) over bar2} extension twinning resulted in the slight increase in yield stress. At 21K, basal slip was suppressed, while extension twinning was promoted, leading to a higher twin volume fraction. The suppression of {10 (1) over bar1}-{10 (1) over bar2} double twinning in the late stage of deformation was considered to be the reason for the delayed fracture at 21 K.

Summary: The twinning and detwinning behavior of a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy during cyclic compression-tension deformation was studied using various characterization techniques. The results showed that the volume fraction and number of residual twins increased with the number of cycles, leading to a decrease in the yield strength of compression deformation.

Summary: After cold-rolling an Mg-6Zn-0.3Ca alloy sheet with a strong basal texture, anomalous double twinning occurred with the (0001) pole aligned to the transverse direction. These twins served as nucleation sites for statically recrystallized grains during annealing, resulting in weak texture features in the annealed sheet with transverse-direction split (0001) poles.

Summary: We report the formation of an unusual texture on the sheet-surface of a rolled Mg-3Al-0.4Mn alloy, where a typical basal texture is formed at the center of the sheet and an unusual texture with vertical tiling is observed at the sheet-surface. The surface promotes prismatic slips and dynamic recrystallization, leading to a high fraction of fine basal-textured grains and a small fraction of off-basal-textured grains. In contrast, the center preserves a relatively high fraction of deformed grains, promoting the growth of basal-textured grains and the formation of the typical basal texture.

Summary: Dynamic extrusion is a promising method to improve both strength and ductility in magnesium alloys by introducing high-density extension twins and dislocation structures. Annealing after dynamic extrusion enhances strain hardening and strength, with high-density twins promoting more dislocation nucleation and offering additional slip systems for improved ductility. This study suggests that increasing twin density through dynamic extrusion can enhance the mechanical properties of magnesium alloys efficiently.

Summary: This paper reports the application of cold-sample rolling (CSR) processing in a Mg-6Al-1Zn alloy sheet, which resulted in a high fraction of double twins and a substantial texture-weakening effect. Compared to high-temperature rolling (HTR) processing, CSR processing induced a relatively higher texture-weakening effect. The results indicate that twinning-mediated static recrystallization is essential for texture weakening in Al-concentrated Mg-alloy sheets.

Summary: This study investigates the origin of the unique parallel alignment of (0001) poles to the transverse direction in rolled alloy sheets. It is found that intermediate reheating during rolling facilitates static recrystallization and leads to the formation of the parallel alignment of (0001) poles to the transverse direction. In contrast, continuous rolling without intermediate reheating suppresses the formation of the unique alignment. The presence of severely deformed regions near double twins hinders the nucleation and growth of statically recrystallized grains, resulting in in-plane anisotropy in ductility.

Summary: Dual-phase Mg-Li alloys with different rolling paths were studied to investigate the effect of rolling path on microstructure, texture and mechanical anisotropy. The lamellar alpha+beta structures remained after ED-rolling and subsequent annealing, while disappeared after TD-rolling. The texture of beta phase was hardly affected by the rolling path. Annealing only reduced the maximum intensity of texture without changing the type of texture. VPSC simulations revealed that the activated deformation modes and alpha/beta phase boundaries played important roles in texture evolution. There was an obvious mechanical anisotropy after ED-rolling, which disappeared after TD-rolling.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of parent austenite grain refinement on the intervariant boundary network in a lath martensitic steel. It found that refining the parent austenite grain led to a decrease in the fraction of certain boundaries in the martensite and an increase in the connectivity of low energy boundaries, ultimately improving the impact toughness.

Summary: Metastable beta Ti alloys based on the Ti-Nb system have attracted attention due to their unique properties. However, the unstable cyclic behavior of these alloys has hindered their widespread industrial use. Recent studies have shown that internal stresses, including those from dislocations, may be responsible for this behavior. This study demonstrates that inter-cycle thermal treatments can mitigate the unstable cyclic behavior, providing a significant breakthrough in our understanding of Ti-Nb superelastic materials.

Summary: This paper systematically investigated the evolution of microstructure in Fe-Ni-Co-Al polycrystalline alloys and its effects on mechanical properties. The results revealed that the migration of grain boundaries in different processes is driven by different factors, which impacts the grain orientation and precipitate formation. In the process of directional recrystallization, grains with specific orientations grow in the grain boundary region and form the dominant orientation, while grains with lower migration rate form the minor orientation. The alloy produced through directional recrystallization exhibited good recoverable strain and superelastic strain, while the alloy produced through solid solution treatment showed no evident superelastic behavior.

Summary: This study employed laser metal deposition to additively manufacture Ti-15Mo wt% alloy, and subsequently subjected it to post-fabrication uniaxial thermomechanical processing. The results showed that different zones in the microstructure remained after processing, and deformation mechanisms mainly involved slip and martensite formation. The compressive mechanical properties were found to be dependent on strain rate, with higher flow stress and compressive strength observed at higher strain rates. Grain structure homogenisation was not achieved, leading to anisotropic tensile properties.

The results show significant heterogeneity in the centerline region, with higher intensity of certain textures. Drop Weight Tear Test indicates that steel specimens with lower and medium reductions exhibit superior low-temperature impact toughness compared to steel with higher reductions. The electrochemical hydrogen charging experiments confirm the presence of internal hydrogen cracks only in steel with lower and medium reductions.

Summary: This study examines the effect of Cr additions on the mechanical behavior of TWIP steel at temperatures ranging from 25°C to 350°C. The results indicate that different temperature-dependent strengthening mechanisms, including mechanical twinning, Dynamic Strain Aging, and slip bands, are at play. The stacking fault energy (SFE) influences the percentage of mechanical twinning, which in turn affects the strain hardening rate.

Summary: The mechanical properties and microstructural evolution of C-doped TRIP-assisted HEA under dynamic loading conditions were systematically investigated in this study. The results showed that dynamic tensile deformation led to an increase in yield strength and a decrease in ultimate tensile strength, with a trend towards increased total elongation. The primary deformation mechanisms shifted from TRIP and TWIP effects to deformation twinning and dislocations. The presence of carbides formed through C-doping hindered dislocation slip and promoted the activation of multiple twinning systems.
