In this study, the microstructures and textures of rolled and rolled/annealed Mg-1 wt.%Mn-based alloys containing different levels of Ce (from 0.05 to 1.0 wt.%) were examined. The Ce addition refined the ascast and rolled/annealed grain structure of Mg-1 wt.%Mn alloy. Moreover, the overall texture intensity of basal pole was weakened for rolled as well as rolled/annealed Mg-Mn-Ce alloys compared to the Mg-1 wt.%Mn (M1) alloy. The texture weakening was attributed to the solid solubility of Ce in Mg rather than particle stimulated nucleation (PSN) or c/a ratio alteration. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
