Breastfeeding following in vitro fertilisation in Switzerland-Does mode of conception affect breastfeeding behaviour?

Livia Amanda Purtschert, Vera Ruth Mitter, Jarmila Anna Zdanowicz, Mirja Amadea Minger, Anna Spaeth, Michael von Wolff, Alexandra Sabrina Kohl Schwartz

Summary: This comparative study in Switzerland found that in vitro fertilisation treatments did not lead to earlier breastfeeding cessation, with similar rates of breastfeeding initiation and duration between the IVF group and the control group.

Health outcomes in offspring born to survivors of childhood cancers following assisted reproductive technologies

Greta Sommerhaeuser, Anja Borgmann-Staudt, Kathy Astrahantseff, Katja Baust, Gabriele Calaminus, Ralf Dittrich, Marta J. Fernandez-Gonzalez, Heike Hoelling, Charlotte J. Koenig, Ralph Schilling, Theresa Schuster, Laura Lotz, Magdalena Balcerek

Summary: An increasing number of childhood cancer survivors are turning to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to overcome fertility impairment from treatment. The use of ART by survivors did not increase the risk of adverse perinatal or health outcomes in offspring, compared to spontaneously conceived children. Successful pregnancies were achieved with fresh and cryopreserved oocytes/sperm, and no increase in childhood cancer or congenital malformations was observed in offspring born to survivors who utilized ART.

Summary: The study found that performing endometrial diagnostic biopsy followed by antibiotic treatment in cases of chronic endometritis can increase the chances of pregnancy and live birth.

Gonadotrophin stimulation reduces follicular fluid hormone concentrations and disrupts their quantitative association with cumulus cell mRNA

Michael von Wolff, Markus Eisenhut, Petra Stute, Nick A. Bersinger

Summary: This study compared follicular fluid hormone concentrations and mRNA expression of LHCG, FSH and androgen receptors, aromatase, and anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) in naturally matured and stimulated follicles. The results showed that hormone concentrations were lower in stimulated cycles, but mRNA concentrations did not differ between the two groups. Quantitative associations between hormone and mRNA concentrations were observed in natural cycles, but not in stimulated cycles.

Gonadotropin Stimulation Reduces the Implantation and Live Birth Rate but Not the Miscarriage Rate of Embryos Transferred When Compared to Unstimulated In Vitro Fertilization

Vera Ruth Mitter, Flavia Gradel, Alexandra Sabrina Kohl Schwartz, Michael von Wolff

Summary: Research suggests that gonadotropin stimulation in IVF treatment affects embryo quality and the endometrium, potentially influencing embryo implantation, placentation, and establishment of a viable pregnancy.

Determinants of transplantation success with cryopreserved ovarian tissue: data from 196 women of the FertiPROTEKT network

L. Lotz, J. Bender-Liebenthron, R. Dittrich, L. Haeberle, M. W. Beckmann, A. Germeyer, M. Korell, N. Saenger, J. S. Kruessel, M. von Wolff

Summary: The study reveals the high potential of ovarian tissue freezing and transplantation, but only if freezing is performed in younger women. The study suggests focus should be placed on the first and not on repeated transplantations. It also opens the discussion of whether transplantation should rather be performed by experienced centres.

Oocyte maturity, oocyte fertilization and cleavage-stage embryo morphology are better in natural compared with high-dose gonadotrophin stimulated IVF cycles

Isotta M. Magaton, Anja Helmer, Markus Eisenhut, Marie Roumet, Petra Stute, Michael von Wolff

Summary: High-dose gonadotrophin stimulation affects oocyte and early-stage embryo development. The study found that natural cycle IVF (NC-IVF) had higher rates of mature oocytes and fertilized zygotes compared to conventional IVF (cIVF). In addition, the morphology of the cleavage-stage embryo was also improved in NC-IVF.

Low-dose clomiphene citrate does not reduce implantation and live birth rates in otherwise unstimulated modified natural cycle IVF-retrospective cohort study

Flavia Gradel, Michael von Wolff, Alexandra Sabrina Kohl Schwartz, Vera Ruth Mitter

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the antiestrogen effect of clomiphene citrate on the endometrium reduces implantation and subsequently decreases pregnancy and live birth rates per transferred embryo. The results showed that low-dose clomiphene citrate does not negatively affect embryo implantation or pregnancy rates, and can be safely used in infertility treatment.

Gym lifestyle factors and male reproductive health: a study into young adult usage and perceptions

Alice Newman-Sanders, Jackson C. Kirkman-Brown, Meurig T. Gallagher

Summary: This study revealed a significant lack of awareness among young adults in the UK regarding the potential impacts of gym lifestyles and supplementation on male infertility. Men were found to have a concerning lack of concern for their own fertility, with differences in awareness levels between men and women. It was also observed that men were more likely to consider making changes to their behavior if it had a long-term impact on their fertility compared to short-term effects.

An artificial intelligence-based approach for selecting the optimal day for triggering in antagonist protocol cycles

Shachar Reuvenny, Michal Youngster, Almog Luz, Rohi Hourvitz, Ettie Maman, Micha Baum, Ariel Hourvitz

Summary: Using a machine-learning model to determine the optimal trigger days can improve the outcomes of antagonist protocol cycles in freeze-all or fresh transfer cycles, for all age groups. Implementing these models can more accurately predict the number of retrieved oocytes, optimizing physicians' decisions, balancing workloads, and creating more standardized yet patient-specific protocols.

Endometrial protein expression and phosphorylation landscape decipher aberrant insulin and mTOR signalling in patients with recurrent pregnancy loss

Chao Chen, Qi Wen, Feng Deng, Rong Li, Ying Wang, Xiumei Zhen, Jing Hang

Summary: This study investigates the proteomic and phosphoproteomic differences in the endometrium of women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) compared to healthy control women during different phases of the menstrual cycle. The results identify differentially expressed proteins and phosphorylated proteins, and highlight the insulin/cyclic nucleotide signalling pathway and AMPK/mTOR signalling pathway as major contributors to the abnormality of RPL endometrium. The findings provide insights into potential proteins associated with the pathogenesis of RPL and contribute to the identification of potential targets for RPL treatment.

Random-start ovarian stimulation in an oocyte donation programme: a large, single-centre, experience

Jaime Guerrero, Juan Carlos Castillo, Jorge Ten, Jose Antonio Ortiz, Belen Lledo, Domingo Orozco, Francisco Quereda, Andrea Bernabeu, Rafael Bernabeu

Summary: The study found no significant differences in clinical outcomes between using oocytes obtained from random-start protocols and those from conventional ovarian stimulation in oocyte donation treatments. Luteal-phase stimulation required longer stimulation and higher FSH consumption.
