Summary: This study evaluated and compared the energy use, environmental impact, and economic benefits of smallholders' rice production mode (SHM) and scale rice production modes. The results showed that the scale rice production modes increased net energy, energy use efficiency, net economic return, and profit-to-labor use ratio, while decreasing global warming potential (GWP) and yield-scaled GWP. These findings suggest that scale rice production modes promote sustainable and low-carbon development of the agricultural industry in China. Government support for developing scale rice production modes and encouraging farmers to take equity in their lands or lease them to micro cooperatives is recommended.

Summary: Segesterone acetate (SA) or Nestorone, a fourth-generation progestogen, is a synthetic compound with high progestational activity. It is used in female contraception and postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and has potential uses in endometriosis, polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS), and neuroprotection. However, the standardized dose and long-term safety of SA implant therapy in women are still controversial.

Summary: Women who undergo early bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) compared to women who go through natural menopause. This study investigated the changes in associative memory in young women with BSO and whether these changes were similar to those observed in women with natural menopause. The results suggest that women with BSO without estrogen replacement therapy have similar brain function to women with natural menopause, indicating that early estrogen loss may lead to altered brain function and increased AD risk.

Summary: This paper highlights that using yields as an indicator may not accurately reflect the relationship between farm size and productivity in small-scale farming. Market distortions and decreasing returns to scale also affect yields, which may result in a misleading interpretation of the relationship between farm productivity and land size. The empirical findings from Uganda, Peru, Tanzania, and Bangladesh emphasize the importance of revisiting the evidence on farm size-productivity relationship for policy implications.

Summary: The incidence of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) has increased in females aged 15-19 years since 2007 but has decreased in older age groups. Relatives of women with POI have a significantly increased risk of developing POI. POI women tend to have slightly lower socioeconomic status and level of education compared to controls.

Summary: Cryopreservation of ovarian tissue is an alternative method for fertility preservation and hormone replacement. It is suitable for cancer patients, patients in urgent need of cancer treatment, and women with premature ovarian failure or menopause, providing physiological doses of hormones while avoiding risks associated with oral hormone replacement.

Summary: Taxation of capital gains upon realization can reduce asset liquidation and have a smaller impact on intertemporal consumption allocation. In certain conditions, realization-based taxation may lead to lower overall distortion of investment choices compared to accrual-based taxation, with likely very small differences in efficiency in either direction.

Summary: The authors argue that the #ChurchInAction hashtag not only represents the social engagement of the Church with the poor during the pandemic, but also serves as a political symbol against the emerging anti-church sentiment. This hashtag is not just a display of Church prosocial engagement, but is embedded with a sense of collective identity and activism against critics of the Catholic institution.

Summary: Examining the links between personality traits and attitudes toward sex robots can provide insights into who may desire such machines, and why. This study found that willingness to engage with and perceived appropriateness of using sex robots were more closely related to emtophilia and sexual sensation seeking than any other traits. It also revealed that cismen and non-binary/gender nonconforming individuals were more willing to engage with sex robots and perceive their use as more appropriate than ciswomen. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the role of technology in our intimate lives and relationships.

Summary: Endometriosis is a risk factor for ovarian cancer, but the effect of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on postmenopausal endometriosis remains unclear. This study investigated the impact of HRT on ovarian cancer occurrence in postmenopausal women with a history of endometriosis or de novo endometriosis. With the exception of HRT using estrogen alone, HRT did not increase the risk of ovarian cancer in these women.

Summary: The study found that a woman's facial attractiveness at reproductive age is negatively correlated with anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) level, a hormone predictor of age at menopause, and positively correlated with estradiol level (E2), an indicator of current fecundity level. This suggests that physical attractiveness may be related to both expected age at menopause and current fecundity level in women.

Summary: An increasing number of childhood cancer survivors are turning to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to overcome fertility impairment from treatment. The use of ART by survivors did not increase the risk of adverse perinatal or health outcomes in offspring, compared to spontaneously conceived children. Successful pregnancies were achieved with fresh and cryopreserved oocytes/sperm, and no increase in childhood cancer or congenital malformations was observed in offspring born to survivors who utilized ART.

Summary: This study compared follicular fluid hormone concentrations and mRNA expression of LHCG, FSH and androgen receptors, aromatase, and anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) in naturally matured and stimulated follicles. The results showed that hormone concentrations were lower in stimulated cycles, but mRNA concentrations did not differ between the two groups. Quantitative associations between hormone and mRNA concentrations were observed in natural cycles, but not in stimulated cycles.

Summary: High-dose gonadotrophin stimulation affects oocyte and early-stage embryo development. The study found that natural cycle IVF (NC-IVF) had higher rates of mature oocytes and fertilized zygotes compared to conventional IVF (cIVF). In addition, the morphology of the cleavage-stage embryo was also improved in NC-IVF.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the antiestrogen effect of clomiphene citrate on the endometrium reduces implantation and subsequently decreases pregnancy and live birth rates per transferred embryo. The results showed that low-dose clomiphene citrate does not negatively affect embryo implantation or pregnancy rates, and can be safely used in infertility treatment.

Summary: This study revealed a significant lack of awareness among young adults in the UK regarding the potential impacts of gym lifestyles and supplementation on male infertility. Men were found to have a concerning lack of concern for their own fertility, with differences in awareness levels between men and women. It was also observed that men were more likely to consider making changes to their behavior if it had a long-term impact on their fertility compared to short-term effects.

Summary: Using a machine-learning model to determine the optimal trigger days can improve the outcomes of antagonist protocol cycles in freeze-all or fresh transfer cycles, for all age groups. Implementing these models can more accurately predict the number of retrieved oocytes, optimizing physicians' decisions, balancing workloads, and creating more standardized yet patient-specific protocols.

Summary: This study investigates the proteomic and phosphoproteomic differences in the endometrium of women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) compared to healthy control women during different phases of the menstrual cycle. The results identify differentially expressed proteins and phosphorylated proteins, and highlight the insulin/cyclic nucleotide signalling pathway and AMPK/mTOR signalling pathway as major contributors to the abnormality of RPL endometrium. The findings provide insights into potential proteins associated with the pathogenesis of RPL and contribute to the identification of potential targets for RPL treatment.
