Summary: Camelina is an oilseed crop with agronomic and qualitative characteristics that make it suitable for multiple bio-based applications. This study compared six camelina cultivars in terms of their agronomic characteristics, oil composition, and specialized metabolites content and composition. The results showed that different cultivars have different characteristics and that growing conditions can influence the content of specialized metabolites.

Summary: Polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as DHA, DPA, and EPA, have similar structures but differ in their biological activities and utilization in mammalian tissues. Among them, DHA plays a unique role in certain tissues and cannot be substituted by other fatty acids. Research shows that the conformational changes in DHA may be affected by structural analogs.

Summary: This study showed that supplementing laying hens' feeds with flaxseeds combined with oil from Ricinodendron heudelotii or Punica granatum seeds can increase the egg content of beneficial fatty acids, without affecting the conversion rate of ALA to DHA. Both oils efficiently converted into RmA, with Punica granatum seed oil having a higher accumulation of PunA in eggs.

Summary: Walnuts contain high levels of ALA, phytoprostanes, and phytofurans, which can increase ALA and eicosapentaenoic acid levels, as well as elevate phytoprostanes and phytofurans in liver and heart tissues when consumed. Additionally, a walnut diet can reduce certain oxidative products in the body, induce the generation of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators in the liver.

Summary: The increasing problem of soil salinization has a severe impact on soybean growth and development, leading to reduced yields and posing a serious threat to global crop production. In this study, the PfFAD3a gene was isolated from perilla and overexpressed in soybeans to assess the salt tolerance of transgenic plants. The results showed that overexpression of PfFAD3a increased the expression of PfFAD3a and the content of ff-linolenic acid in transgenic soybean plants, significantly enhancing their salt tolerance. Physiological and biochemical analysis revealed that overexpression of PfFAD3a increased the chlorophyll content and maximum photochemical efficiency of transgenic soybean plants under salt stress, while reducing the accumulation of MDA, H2O2, and O-circle(2), and increasing the activities of SOD, POD, CAT, and APX, as well as the production of proline and soluble sugar. In conclusion, the overexpression of PfFAD3a enhances salt tolerance in transgenic soybean plants through improved membrane fluidity and increased antioxidant capacity induced by C18:3.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of alpha-linolenic acid and n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids on the LDL lipidome and aggregation of LDL particles. The results showed that consumption of Camelina sativa oil and fatty fish can modify the LDL lipidome to contain more polyunsaturated and less saturated lipid species. The surface lipids of LDL are associated with LDL aggregation.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate multidrug-resistant Enterococcus strains isolated from bats in Poland. The findings showed that a significant percentage of the isolates exhibited multi-drug resistance, with resistance to tetracycline, erythromycin, and rifampicin being the most common combination. Additionally, a high proportion of strains showed high-level aminoglycoside resistance. It was also observed that certain resistance genes were frequently detected together in the same strain, indicating potential common occurrence on mobile genetic elements.

Summary: This experiment showed that pre-laying hens exposed to fumonisin B1 and fumonisin B2 experienced negative effects on their intestines and liver, including disruption of intestinal epithelial integrity, liver degeneration, and changes in bone tissue structure. Even at low doses, fumonisin administration can lead to intestinal barrier degradation and increased bone fracture risk in hens.

Summary: Investigations on bone tissue response under different loading conditions are important. This study analyzed the influence of nesfatin-1 on the mechanical properties of rat humerus. Results showed that nesfatin-1 administration increased bone strength parameters. Ovariectomized rats had the most deformation and lowest fracture toughness. Impact tests were more sensitive than three-point bending tests. Maximum force values could be used to predict bone fracture toughness.
