Summary: Supramolecular self-assembly of molecules into highly ordered architectures is an attractive approach for developing advanced functional materials. Recently, supramolecular coassembly (SCA) of multiple component systems has emerged as a promising strategy for generating complex structures with diverse functions. This feature article highlights the recent advances and future trends in SCAs, including synthetic strategies, morphological control, and functional applications. The rationalization of monomer pairs used in SCAs and the discussion of assembly behaviors based on dimensions are presented. The emergent functions and applications of SCAs, such as adsorption, catalysis, optoelectronics, and biomedicines, are also highlighted.

Summary: The charge transport in discotic mesogens based on triphenylene core was investigated using the time-of-flight method. The hole mobility was found to decrease with increasing the number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chain attached to the triphenylene core, following an exponential relationship. Dielectric measurements revealed a correlation between molecular ordering and alkyl chain length, impacting hole mobility and permittivity. The potential applications of these compounds in opto-electronics as organic semiconductors are noted, despite the challenge of poor conductivity.

Summary: This study synthesized a series of classic LC trimer homologs and reevaluated their elusive monotropic mesophases, revealing the novel heliconical NTB phase in achiral bent molecules. The alternating induction of Sm and NTB phases depending on n parity was only observed in LC trimer homologs, suggesting steric interactions play a crucial role in determining the mesophase behavior.

Summary: In cyanobacteria and algae, flavodoxin (Fld) acts as an electron carrier during photosynthesis under stress conditions. This study presents the crystal structures of apo-Fld from Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942, revealing a potential dimer-monomer transition mechanism. The dimer serves as a standby state to stabilize itself, while the monomer is ready to bind FMN. Additionally, a docking model of the cyanobacterial Fld-FNR complex is proposed, highlighting the interactions between Fld and FNR.

Summary: A non-aqueous lamellar liquid crystal system was constructed using dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA) and different solvents. It showed superior lubrication performance and lower corrosion to metals compared to other systems. This study enriched the research on non-aqueous lamellar liquid crystal systems and expanded their potential applications in the field of lubrication.

Summary: Hydrogen-bonded discotic liquid crystals (DLCs) were synthesized through two distinct methods. The first approach introduced a chiral core connected via H-bonding to an achiral system, yielding supramolecular chirality within the columns. In the second method, an achiral core to a chiral system was introduced through H-bonding. Additionally, the peripheral alkyl chain lengths of the DLCs were changed, resulting in temperature-induced transformations in their internal structure.

Summary: Proton-decoupled deuterium NMR spectra of the liquid crystal dimer CB6OCB with a single -CD2- group were obtained, revealing two nematic liquid crystal phases: twist-bend nematic (NTB) at lower temperature and uniaxial nematic (NU) at higher temperature. Proton decoupling technique greatly improved the spectral resolution, allowing precise determination of quadrupolar splittings and dipolar couplings between deuterium nuclei within the CD2 group, thus enhancing the information content.

Summary: Four truxenone derivatives with bulky methoxy substituents were synthesized and studied, showing complex thermotropic behavior compared to truxenones with identical long alkoxy chains. The methoxy groups led to lower clearing points and temperature ranges in the Col(h) phases while maintaining high melting points. Additionally, one derivative self-assembled into a well-ordered two-dimensional structure at a solid/liquid interface resembling a proposed bulk mesomorphic three-dimensional columnar phase.

Summary: This paper systematically studies the compressive behaviors of monodomain liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) blocks under plane strain with different initial directors. The rotation of the director and the formation of lamellar domains significantly affect the compressive stress-strain curves. The formation of lamellar domains depends on the angles between the initial director and the compressive loading axis, as well as the geometrical and material parameters of the samples. This work provides a deeper understanding of LCE behavior under compression.

Summary: A series of new mixed tail triphenylene derivatives with specific side chains were synthesized and characterized, and their liquid-crystalline properties and the effects of variations in the lengths of alkoxy and N-alkyl chains on mesogens were studied. It was found that the length of the alkoxy chains had a more significant impact on the mesogens, and the intermolecular hydrogen bonding induced by the amide functional group enhanced the stability of the mesophase. Additionally, it was discovered that intermolecular hydrogen bonding was not the sole factor responsible for gel formation in these molecules.
