Anatomical, physiological, and chemical alterations in lichen (Parmotrema tinctorum (Nyl.) Hale) transplants due to air pollution in two cities of Brahmaputra Valley, India

Rebecca Daimari, Pranamika Bhuyan, Sharfaa Hussain, Sanjeeva Nayaka, M. A. Jafar Mazumder, Raza R. Hoque

Summary: The study revealed significant anatomical damage in lichen samples transplanted in larger cities, with a decrease in chlorophyll content and an increase in electrical conductivity in samples exposed to high traffic density areas. Severe accumulation of Cd was observed in all transplants, with enrichment of elements such as Cd, Pb, and Zn in lichen samples from both cities.

Genomic diversity and organization of complex polysaccharide biosynthesis clusters in the genus Dickeya

Manish Ranjan, Devanshi Khokhani, Sanjeeva Nayaka, Suchi Srivastava, Zachary P. Keyser, Ashish Ranjan

Summary: The pectinolytic genus Dickeya includes pathogenic species with complex virulence gene regulation processes. Extracellular polysaccharides and lipopolysaccharides play a significant role in their virulence. Study reveals diversity and structural organization of capsule and lipopolysaccharide biosynthetic gene clusters in Dickeya strains.

Cyphellostereum indicum (Hygrophoraceae), a new species of basidiolichen from India

Sanjeeva Nayaka, Ambikesh Debnath

Summary: Cyphellostereum indicum, a new species of basidiolichen, was discovered in Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is characterized by its habitat on the ground, the cyanobacteria Rhizonema as its photobiont, and solitary hymenophores that are white to cream-colored and flabellate in shape. The species also has thin-walled, smooth, simple, irregular to pip-shaped basidiospores measuring 3.18-4.9 x 2.06-2.9μm. Phylogenetic analysis confirms its distinct position within the genus Cyphellostereum, different from any previously reported species. Cyphellostereum indicum is the third basidiolichen species reported from India.
