Summary: Evaluating the survival benefit of liver transplantation is crucial for decision-making in liver allocation. Previous studies showed increased mortality risk for those transplanted below MELD 18, but this study challenges that practice by demonstrating survival benefits for most transplant patients at the lowest MELD scores and providing insight into who benefits within these subgroups.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of MELD-Na score alterations on waiting list outcomes in liver transplant candidates. The results showed that deterioration in MELD-Na during waiting time has a significant negative impact on the liver transplant waiting list outcome.

Summary: Liver transplantation has shown survival benefits for patients with localized hepatocellular carcinoma. However, factors such as late-stage diagnoses, limited availability of donor livers, and improved mortality rates for patients without transplants have constrained the impact of transplantation on general population HCC-specific mortality rates.

Summary: Recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is common after liver transplantation, and it is associated with younger age at transplantation, the use of mycophenolate mofetil post-transplant, sex mismatch, and high pre-transplant IgG levels. Recurrent AIH is associated with impaired graft and overall survival. Better characterization, prevention, and treatment strategies are needed for the management of recurrent AIH.

Summary: This study investigated the role of liver transplantation (LT) in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) compared to liver resection (LR) in ICC patients and LT in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The results showed that the prognosis of ICC patients after LT was better than after LR, but still worse than HCC patients after LT.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical features, treatment response, and outcomes of liver injury following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. The liver injury was predominantly hepatocellular and some patients showed features of immune-mediated hepatitis. Corticosteroid therapy may be beneficial for patients with immune-mediated features or severe hepatitis. The overall outcome was generally favorable, but a few patients experienced vaccine-associated liver failure.

Summary: The study established the best possible outcomes and reference values for liver transplantation using grafts donated after circulatory death (DCD) through benchmarking. The benchmark cases showed excellent 1-year retransplant and mortality rates, but had high rates of major complications. The use of organ perfusion technology reduced complications and improved outcomes in high-risk patients.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Raman spectroscopy as a promising analytical tool in medical diagnostics and a method to distinguish between healthy individuals and those with cholangiocarcinoma. The results showed that there were differences in the Raman spectra of amino acids, proteins, and lipid vibrations between healthy individuals and cancer patients. Specific ranges in the Raman spectra were identified as effective in distinguishing between the two groups.

Summary: HIPEC is a common treatment for peritoneal malignancies, but is associated with high patient morbidity, including acute kidney injury. Cisplatin-containing HIPEC regimens are a significant risk factor for AKI, with additional factors including angiotensin receptor blockers and elevated preoperative creatinine and urea levels. Experimental mouse models suggest that cisplatin, not hyperthermia, induces AKI in HIPEC, and cytoprotective agents like amifostine may not confer nephroprotective effects in this context.
