Summary: Differences in patient and surgeon expectations for foot and ankle surgery were associated with patient physical and mental status, patient-surgeon communication, and patient perceptions of provider partnership building. Surgeons should set more realistic expectations with patients who have greater disability and in those whom they have stronger partnerships with. Further studies are needed to understand how modifications in patient and surgeon interactions and patient health literacy affect agreement in expectations of foot and ankle surgery.

Summary: The study found that patient religious and spiritual beliefs have a significant influence on treatment decision making in cancer care, but providers often underestimate this impact. Most research focused on the impact of R&S on treatment decisions at the end of life, despite its importance throughout the entire continuum of care.

Summary: This study evaluated the expectations of patients with spinal metastases who underwent surgery and/or radiation therapy. It revealed that patients had low expectations for treatment outcomes and were well-informed about potential complications. However, their expectations regarding pain relief and improved daily functioning were not fully met post-treatment, highlighting the need for improved patient-physician communication.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and analyze a new patient-reported outcome measure, the CI Quality of Life (CIQOL) Expectations, to address the lack of data on the realism of patients' outcome expectations. The results of the psychometric analysis showed that the CIQOL-Expectations instrument demonstrated adequate to strong psychometric properties. This instrument can provide an evidence-based approach to assess patients' expectations and assist clinicians in counseling.

Summary: This study characterized the health status of patients newly consulting an orthopaedic specialist across eight clinical subspecialties using PROMIS measures. Patients in neurosurgery, spine, and trauma clinics were most affected, while hand specialists reported the least limitations or symptoms. The study also found correlations between different PROMIS domains, supporting PROMIS as a useful tool for assessing patient health status across orthopaedic subspecialties.

Summary: This study developed and validated the Hospitalized Patients' Expectations for Treatment Scale-Patient version (HOPE-P), which measures the expectations of general hospital inpatients. The scale consists of three dimensions: doctor-patient communication expectations, treatment outcome expectations, and disease management expectancy. The results showed that the HOPE-P is a reliable and valid assessment tool that accurately captures patients' expectations regarding doctor-patient communication and treatment outcomes.

Summary: There are gaps in understanding and attitudes between chronic pain patients and primary care providers, with patients focusing more on functional goals and behavioral treatment, while PCPs feel dissatisfied with providing optimal quality of chronic pain care. Recognition of these gaps could support high-quality communication and interventional strategies for better patient-centered care.

Summary: The study examined the negative effects of high pain interference on cCBT for anxiety and depression, and whether high optimism can mitigate these effects. Findings revealed that high pain interference had a negative impact on physical HRQoL, regardless of optimism level, while low optimism/high pain interference negatively impacted mental HRQoL and anxiety symptoms. High optimism may buffer against the negative effects of pain interference on cCBT outcomes.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the use of Lenalidomide in various disease settings. The findings suggest that Lenalidomide-induced second primary malignancies (SPM) occur exclusively in patients with multiple myeloma. There is no increased risk of SPM in other disease settings. Lenalidomide is an effective drug in the multiple myeloma setting, but patients should be monitored for both solid and hematological SPM.

Summary: The poor diet quality of US adults is often overestimated by themselves. This study examined the agreement between calculated and perceived diet quality, as well as changes in diet quality, among adults enrolled in a weight loss program. Concordance between Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI) scores and perceived diet quality (PDQ) scores was assessed. The results showed that there was low agreement between HEI and PDQ scores, with participants perceiving greater improvement in diet quality than indicated by actual changes.
