Single Capsule Bismuth Quadruple Therapy for Eradication of H. pylori Infection: A Real-Life Study

Summary: In this study, BQT using Pylera demonstrated to be an effective therapeutic strategy with high eradication rates of H. pylori in areas with high prevalence of CLA or CLA + metronidazole resistance strains. The treatment showed good compliance and low incidence of side effects, making it a suitable option for patients naive to treatment in such regions.

Rifabutin-Containing Triple Therapy Versus Bismuth Quadruple Therapy for Helicobacter pylori Rescue Treatment: A Multicenter, Randomized Controlled Trial

Summary: Tailored therapy based on DPO-PCR for Helicobacter pylori eradication showed comparable success rates between 7-day and 14-day treatment durations in patients without point mutations. Both treatment durations were effective in achieving eradication without significant differences in adverse event rates, suggesting that the cost-effective 7-day duration may be considered in Korea.

Summary: This study aimed to test the beneficial effects of Saccharomyces boulardii (S.boulardii) prior to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) rescue therapy. The results showed that S.boulardii can increase H. pylori eradication rates and is comparable in cost-effectiveness to the traditional treatment regimen. Additionally, there were no significant differences in adverse event incidence between the two groups.

Comparison of 10 and 14 days of antofloxacin-based versus 14 days of clarithromycin-based bismuth quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication: A randomized trial

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of 10 and 14 days of antofloxacin-based bismuth quadruple therapy with 14 days of clarithromycin-based bismuth quadruple therapy as first-line treatment for H. pylori infection. The results showed that the eradication rate of H. pylori with ANT14 therapy was higher than that with ANT10 and CLA14 therapy without significantly increasing the rates of adverse events. Therefore, 14 days of antofloxacin-based bismuth quadruple therapy may be a more effective first-line treatment for H. pylori infection.

7-day versus 14-day tegoprazan-based triple therapy to treat Helicobacter pylori infection: Real-world evidence

The Incidence and Risk Factors for Metachronous Gastric Cancer in the Remnant Stomach after Gastric Cancer Surgery

Summary: This study analyzed the incidence and risk factors of metachronous gastric cancer (GC) in patients who had undergone partial gastrectomy. The results showed that older age and the surgical method used (proximal gastrectomy or pylorus-preserving gastrectomy) were related risk factors for metachronous GC. Regular and careful follow-up with endoscopy should be performed in patients who have undergone gastric partial resection, especially in males, those with intestinal type histology, and those aged 60 years and older.

Effects of Reproductive Factors on Lauren Intestinal-Type Gastric Cancers in Females: A Multicenter Retrospective Study in South Korea

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of reproductive factors on gastric cancer (GC) in females. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the proportion of intestinal-type GCs between females >= 20 years postmenopause and males. Furthermore, age and parity >= 3 were positively associated with an increased risk of intestinal-type GCs in postmenopausal females, while long fertility duration was positively associated with an increased risk of intestinal-type GCs in premenopausal females.

Effect of Clostridium butyricum on High-Fat Diet-Induced Intestinal Inflammation and Production of Short-Chain Fatty Acids

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the response of rat colon to a high-fat diet (HFD) and the effect of Clostridium butyricum on HFD-induced intestinal inflammation and production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) according to sex. The results showed that HFD significantly increased inflammation scores and fat proportions. Clostridium butyricum improved HFD-induced colonic inflammation, increased SCFA production, and enhanced the expression of tight junction proteins. These effects were more pronounced in male rats, showing a sex difference.

Rehabilitation Program for Improved Musculoskeletal Pain in Gastrointestinal Endoscopists: Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

Summary: This study aimed to develop a rehabilitation program for musculoskeletal pain in gastrointestinal endoscopists and determine its usefulness. A multicenter cohort study was conducted with 118 participants, and it was found that 94% of them reported musculoskeletal pain at the beginning. The follow-up surveys revealed that musculoskeletal pain was associated with equipment/posture performance. Conclusion: Our rehabilitation program is effective and satisfactory in improving musculoskeletal pain in gastrointestinal endoscopists.

Summary: This study assessed the antimicrobial resistance rates and trends of Helicobacter pylori in Korean patients. The results showed an increasing resistance rate to clarithromycin, metronidazole, and fluoroquinolones. The prevalence of multidrug resistance also significantly increased.

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors for synchronous multiple gastric cancer (SMGC). Data from 14,603 patients with gastric cancer were analyzed, and the incidence of SMGC was found to be 4.04%, which was associated with male sex, age ≥65 years, and early gastric cancer. Unlike single gastric cancer, SMGC had a high survival rate.

Sex/gender differences in gastrointestinal endoscopy from the perspective of patients and gastroenterologists

Summary: The sex/gender of gastroenterologists has an impact on patients' satisfaction, compliance, and clinical outcomes. Female gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopist-patient gender concordance improves health-related outcomes, indicating the need for increased number of female GI endoscopists. While the number of women in the field of gastroenterology is increasing, it is not sufficient to meet the gender preferences of female patients. Gastroenterologists, particularly male endoscopists, are at a high risk of endoscopy-related injuries, with different distribution of injuries between males and females.

Sex Difference of Colon Adenoma Pathway and Colorectal Carcinogenesis

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer that affects both men and women, but there are significant sex differences. Men have a higher risk and earlier onset of CRC, suggesting a protective role of estrogen. Female patients are more likely to develop aggressive right-sided colon cancer. There are differences in carcinogenic mechanisms between left and right CRC, with sex-based biological and sociocultural factors playing a role.
