Summary: Iron metabolism disorder is closely related to acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). This study aimed to analyze the levels of soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related ACLF and evaluate its predictive value for short-term prognosis. The results showed that decreased sTfR levels were independently associated with 30-day mortality in HBV-ACLF patients, suggesting its potential as a predictor.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a prediction model for the prognosis of patients with Hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure. The results showed that FT3 and Na were protective factors for the prognosis of patients, while age, TBil, INR, HE grading, and Cr were risk factors. The FT3-related prediction model had good predictive value for the 90-day prognosis.

Summary: Metabolomics using MSI-CE-MS and NMR techniques compared serum metabolome of HCV patients with liver fibrosis and non-HCV controls, revealing elevated serum choline and histidine in late-stage liver fibrosis. Serum choline to uric acid ratio provided optimal differentiation of liver disease severity.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of serum TSH levels on the prognosis of patients with HBV-related ACLF. The results showed that higher TSH levels were associated with higher 30-day and 90-day survival rates. The findings suggest that serum TSH levels may be useful for predicting the survival of patients with HBV-related ACLF.

Summary: In patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with peginterferon, higher levels of antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen were associated with more intrahepatic inflammatory activity and favorable treatment responses, highlighting the importance of B-cell activation in controlling hepatitis B virus replication.

Summary: Viral hepatitis is a global public health issue, causing significant morbidity and mortality. The burden of viral hepatitis is mainly caused by five unrelated hepatotropic viruses: HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, and HEV. Metabolomics, an emerging technology, can provide information about metabolic levels and changes in metabolic pathways. Changes in glucose, lipid, and amino acid levels are associated with the pathogenesis and medication mechanism of viral hepatitis. Differential metabolites can be used as biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic responses. This review provides a comprehensive overview of metabolomics in viral hepatitis.

Summary: The study identified UBE2Q1 gene promoter methylation as a potential biomarker for predicting and diagnosing ACHBLF, with hypomethylation associated with the severity of the condition. The UBE2Q1 promoter methylation status combined with the model for end-stage liver disease score showed high sensitivity and specificity for early diagnosis of ACHBLF.

Summary: Current infection biomarkers have limitations in predicting infection and disease outcomes, and have limited applications. Therefore, it is crucial to discover new and effective clinical infection biomarkers that can help physicians better manage patients, reduce severe outcomes, personalize therapies, minimize antibiotics overuse and hospitalization time, and significantly improve patient survival. Metabolomics provides a promising strategy to discover these biomarkers by directly examining the functional metabolic outcomes.

Summary: This study aims to establish a more efficient prognostic assessment system for hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF). By analyzing data from 623 patients, a new scoring system was developed using results from the first reexamination, first examination, mean daily change, and other first examination results. The final prognostic scoring system accurately predicted 90-day mortality and patients with lower scores had longer survival times.
