Summary: In the largest ever study of LSM in patients with PBC, LSM assessed by VCTE improves prediction of survival beyond biochemical response, established prognostic scores, and age categories, independent of time. LSM can reasonably be regarded as a useful prognostic marker and a potential surrogate endpoint in PBC clinical trials.

Summary: This study retrospectively describes the use of splenectomy in the management of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia in dogs. The results suggest that splenectomy is successful in isolated cases of immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, but its effectiveness in immune-mediated hemolytic anemia and concurrent immune-mediated hemolytic anemia and severe thrombocytopenia remains uncertain.

Summary: Canine Burkitt-like lymphoma (B-LL) is a rare tumor in dogs classified as a high-grade B-cell malignancy. Compared to the human counterpart, phenotypical differences are observed, and despite treatment, prognosis remains poor. However, around 30% of dogs can survive more than 1 year.

Summary: miRNAs play a role in post-transcriptional gene regulation and can serve as prognostic markers in canine osteosarcoma. Dysregulation of miRNA expression is associated with prognosis in aggressive tumors, suggesting a potential link between miRNA regulatory networks and metastatic phenotype in dogs with osteosarcoma.

Summary: Cardiogenic shock (CS) patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) have higher 30-day all-cause mortality compared to those with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This association is primarily driven by patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), while IHCA is not associated with mortality in non-AMI patients. Multivariable analysis confirms that IHCA is solely associated with higher 30-day all-cause mortality in AMI patients, but not in the non-AMI group and CAD subgroups. CS patients with IHCA and AMI have significantly increased all-cause mortality at 30 days, while there is no difference when differentiated by CAD.

Summary: The study developed an 8-item multidimensional index for predicting 11-year mortality in primary care and validated its predictive accuracy in different cohorts. Results showed that for each additional point score increase in the index, the mortality hazard ratio increased by 53%, suggesting that the PCP Index can be a useful tool for predicting long-term mortality in older adults in primary care settings.

Summary: This study reviewed 19 studies with data on 5,781 stroke patients, showing that increased levels of plasma D-dimer predict worsened functional outcomes and elevated mortality following stroke. Subgroup analysis indicated that D-dimer levels were more predictive of poorer functional outcomes for ischemic stroke compared to intracerebral hemorrhage. The study provides evidence that higher D-dimer levels are associated with poorer functional outcomes and higher mortality post-stroke.

Summary: Intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) is a common complication in dogs. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the development of IL in dogs with lymphoplasmacytic enteritis (LPE). The results showed that there was a significant increase in iNOS expression in the duodenal tissues of dogs with IL-negative or IL-positive LPE compared to control dogs. However, there was no significant difference in iNOS expression between IL-positive and IL-negative tissues, suggesting that factors other than nitric oxide may contribute to the development of IL in dogs with LPE.

Summary: This multicentre, retrospective observational study aimed to describe the clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, treatment and outcomes of cats with tracheal masses. Lymphoma was the most prevalent diagnosis, and showed a good response to chemotherapy with or without radiation therapy. Summary: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignancy in dogs, with poor prognosis. This study investigated the involvement of apoptosis inhibitor of macrophage (AIM) in the development of HS in dogs. The expression of AIM in tumor tissue and serum AIM levels were evaluated, and the effects of AIM overexpression on HS cells were studied. The results suggest that elevated expression of AIM in tumor and serum could induce the progression of HS cells in dogs, and serum AIM levels may serve as a biomarker for HS.
