Summary: Developing competency frameworks in health professions involves a range of stakeholders, but current studies show a focus on practitioners and academics, with limited involvement of service users and professionals from other disciplines. Future methodologies should aim to engage a variety of relevant stakeholders, such as external health professions and the community, to better align professional education with healthcare service demands.

Summary: The importance of teaching and assessing professional skills in veterinary education has been highlighted recently due to a lack of such skills and attitudes among new graduates, as recognized by employers and graduates themselves. In addition to traditional focus on content knowledge and clinical skills, veterinary education curricula must also include dedicated instruction in veterinary professionalism, covering communication skills, emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, teamwork abilities, and strategies for resolving challenges. Incorporating explicit learning activities to reinforce professionalism is necessary in order to address the reliance on observation and role modelling.

Summary: This study examines how healthcare learners and professionals learn patient-centredness through interventions involving standardized patients (SPs) in different healthcare educational contexts. The results reveal that interventions with SPs create a safe learning environment, facilitate reflective practice, and enable collaborative learning. These interventions trigger mechanisms such as confidence, comfort, safety, self-reflection, awareness, comparing & contrasting perspectives, and combining and broadening perspectives. Overall, the study proposes a program theory for learning patient-centredness through interventions with SPs.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the impact of entrustable professional activities (EPAs) on motivation and learning of psychiatry trainees. The results showed that the impact of EPAs on learning was mediated by the trainee's appraisals of subjective control, value, and the costs of engaging with EPAs. Positive appraisals encouraged focused and structured learning with the supervisor, while negative appraisals led to a superficial approach. The granularity of EPAs, alignment with clinical practice, and the supervisor's conscientiousness were found to influence trainee appraisals and subsequent motivation and learning.

Summary: This study examined the impact of sacrifices made by medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. The findings revealed that the initial emotional distress caused by sacrifices led to a negotiation process revolving around predisposition to sacrifice, sense of competence, and sense of belonging. This negotiation process resulted in three response patterns, namely no sense of duty, sense of duty with hesitation to act, and sense of duty with readiness to act. The readiness to engage with the sacrifices was found to reinforce students' professional identities.

The findings reveal that educators predominantly use traditional criteria to understand and achieve assessment quality, with limited awareness of quality criteria at the course and program levels. Additionally, educators perceive the impact of assessment on student learning in two distinct ways: as a source of information to monitor and direct learning, and as a tool to prompt learning.

Summary: Reliability and measurement error are measurement properties that assess the impact of various sources of variation on individual measurements. Different designs can be used to evaluate reliability and measurement error, based on choices about which sources of variation are manipulated, which are controlled, and whether the entire measurement instrument or only part of it is repeated. This paper explains how these choices affect the calculation of intraclass correlation coefficients and standard errors of measurement using Venn diagrams, and provides recommendations for improving measurement and reporting study essentials.
